“You’re dirtying the pathway with all that blood.” My heart clenched. I looked at Caspar, but he just wrinkled his nose in disgust and smoothed a golden strand of hair out of Olive’s eyes. “Don’t look at her, sweet sister. She’s filthy, covered in flies and her own piss.” Without another word, Caspar turned, carrying Olive away. I didn’t get a look at her face, but I knew she’d be suppressing a smirk. “Pick the traitor up,” Cedric said, snapping his fingers at a nearby servant. “And clean up that blood while you’re at it.”

Mary's voice was insistent. Olivia remembered a dream. It had felt real, and she realized with a start that it probably was real. She had been drinking blood in her dream. It must have been when Ben was giving her his blood. She must have really drunk it. She shuddered at the realization. She couldn't believe she had swallowed another's blood. It was unthinkable. "Olivia, focus!" Mary's voice came through her haze. "I drank his blood?" Her voice wavered with disgust.

Marcus stepped back slightly, confused but trusting her. Then Olivia lowered her head and began licking the deep wounds covering Tasha’s body. The sight shocked everyone. The taste of warm blood filled Olivia’s mouth, strangely sweet against her tongue, but she did not hesitate. As she continued, something extraordinary began to happen. Her long black hair slowly started to glow. The strands lifted gently into the air as if moved by invisible currents of energy. A faint humming sound escaped her lips, soft and ancient, echoing with a power that no one present had ever witnessed before.

I murmured holding her hand and took it close to my lip, at first came reluctance but my fangs suddenly grew out and she winced the moment I dug them into her flesh, sucking her blood out. I felt the pain lessen and the wound healing, until it closed totally, then I pulled away, breathing heavily like I'd taken life from her.
