Miss Dana replied with equal excitement and hung up. I stood from my seat and jumped up and down like a child. I was super excited to be writing for one of the most renowned publishing companies in Nigeria. My novel wasn't only read in New York but extended to Nigeria as well. Ever since I came back home two months ago, I had been getting offers from writing firms and even Agro-allied industries as a food processor and project manager. I had chosen to take the food processing job as my day job and the writing work as a side job since I only wrote from home. It was better that way but I was tired and in need of a break.

He is good at writing, and I thought about exploring some job options for him. We actually got an email from your office.” “Oh, yes. We are looking for new talented writers. We are changing a lot of things in our magazine. You know we need a new perspective. Fresh, young minds with a vision to write something new.”

On the walk back she says quietly, “Maybe you need a job. Something that forces you to use your brain. You know, other writers can inspire you.” She is right. I hate that she is right, but she is. So when we get back home, I search for writing jobs. Content roles. Editorial roles. Anything that requires me to think like a storyteller again. I find one. A nice one. Good pay. Hybrid. I apply. The next day they message me for an interview.

We ate, chatted and laughed about other things. When I got back, I laid on my bed and looked at the ceiling thinking about what getting the job at the company would do for me. It would not only be a boost to my financial life but it would also be important for my career. I would have the opportunity to express myself through writing. I never felt that I fully utilised my creativity at my current jobs. I fell asleep that day thinking about what my life would be like as a content writer at D. M. Corps. Ltd.

To my dismay, I see a bunch of “Cameron black” My God! I am running mad. I fall on my bed and roll on my back. I loved the feeling and emotions it gave me. I finished College with a Journalism course because I also wanted to be a journalist before I decided to pursue what I had wanted to do for a long time and became a Creative Writer. At the age of twenty-two, I became a Freelance Writer until I signed a contract and became an official Full Time Writer for the company 'Book is Life.' And currently, I'm almost three years into the company. I was halfway there when my cell phone rang, and I sighed when I saw that it was my Mom calling. I know she will force me again to come to our reunion later.

For instance, I took that job at the New Yorker because I thought that was what I wanted my life to be like: safe and secured. But safe and secure... didn't really make me happy. When I looked back to my life, to the time where I was truly content and proud of myself, it would be the time when I finished my novel. I wanted to write again. At the company, all I did was sort through other people's writings. Although I learned a lot, I never got a chance to write anything myself. So a few weeks ago I did something insane. I handed in my two weeks notice. And today, I officially became Kara Livingston, a 23-year-old unemployed millennial.

Cora shrugged. "Me? There's no way I won't need money," I joked and we laughed. I did have a job, I am a writer, and I do all the kinds of writing there is; Ghost writing, content writing, script-writing, and I write personal books, two of which were adapted into live action. Not to brag, but I am a hot cake writer, kinda famous for my works, and works that people didn't even know I wrote; either way, it was bringing me money and hence the reason why Cora would think I didn't need money. Everyone needs money, Femi Otedola does, Jeff Bezos does, Dangote does, hell even Elon Musk still needed money, so who was I not to need money because I was earning a few thousands? Not me!

Who knows waiting for an email from an organization, and hoping the said email would have attached to it, a job offer, can cause someone to reach such a stage of anxiety I never bargained for this unnecessary migraine. I am okay with the freelance writing thing I have going on on Upwork. Though the income is nothing compared to how much I love spending money, I am okay, because it isn't much of a brainer. All I do is be a ghostwriter for some author or help write school essays and get paid. And all these I do from the comfort of my home. But my mother doesn't trust that I can survive on such meager wages. She doesn't want me to resort to begging on the street if, after her death, Romeo decid
