He dragged her by the jaw and pinned her on the wall. Emily saw her reflection in his lusty eyes and touched her white dress. She clenched her jaw as she pierced her gaze into Cole’s. She grasped the side of her dress. And when she looked to the side, she saw their reflection in a lengthy mirror—Cole, who was holding her on the jaw while his free hand leaned on the wall, and herself, who saw a different her.

We crept up and peered inside. Cole stood in the center of the room, surrounded. There was so much blood on his shirt from his reopened shoulder wound. Ronn was beside him, looking as sick as ever. His checks were flushed, and his ears were a very bright pink. At the head of the table sat one of my father’s lieutenants, smiling like a shark. Cole’s voice cut through the noise, calm and deadly. “You hand me over to Vex, you’re signing your own death warrants. He’ll never stop until he owns everything.”

Knox, however, had gone completely still beside me. Cole turned his gaze to him, and his eyes widened in awe. “Whoa...” he breathed. “Am I dreaming? You’re the Alpha!” Knox blinked. His mouth gaped open slightly, then closed. He looked down at the small boy, then at me, then back at Cole with realization dawning on his face. I smirked. “Cole, this is Knox. The one you’ve been wanting to meet.” Cole’s face broke into the biggest grin, and his eyes shone with excitement.

He bent down and scooped a handful of water into his hands and took a deep breath. "Harley, you are that person for me." With that, Cole threw the water into the air and it immediately froze into ice.

I tried again, louder. “Hey. I’m Lena Hale from the Northcrest Daily. I need to set up an interview with you for a feature.” Cole finally slowed down and glided over. He stopped right in front of me, still on the ice while I stood on the rubber mats. Up close he was even taller than I thought. His eyes were this crazy light blue, almost gray. Cold. He looked at me like I was wasting his time. I waited. He said nothing. “Good communication skills for a captain,” I said, unable to keep the sarcasm out.
