The blue of the sky was an insult.
It was a perfect, crystalline cerulean—the kind of blue that only existed in pre-cataclysm postcards or the most expensive tiers of the Aethelgard simulation. It was the color of peace, of a world reborn, of a "Hard-Reset" that should have signaled the end of our suffering. But as I stood on the grey, salt-crusted sand of the Pacific shoreline, that blue felt like a mocking screen, a new layer of paint over a rotting house.
