I felt the familiar heat of a blush crawl up my neck. We spent the afternoon exploring our "new" island. The setup was perfect with a small outdoor kitchen area where a cooler was stocked with fresh ingredients, and a shaded spot for us to eat. We sat by the ocean and roasted fish over a small, controlled fire, just like we used to, but this time there was no desperation. He sighed as he turned his eyes towards the front of the ships, and the rippling sea. The convict ship was destined for what Havuid had called “the other barbarian land.” According to Havuid’s maps, Astreau was an island within lands occupied by barbarians. The population problems of Astreau had caused them to explore thoroughly around them, seeking to spread outwards. The continent that Alden shared with the plague-carrying fisher people, Concordia, and Etrait, all appeared on the maps, along with islands on the other side of Astreau, and this other large body of land.

She opened the door to the cellar to let me out. "Joyce! Oliver said to not let you out unless you admit your mistakes! Get back into the cellar! You'll have to bear with it!" The towering height and healthy green leaves of the trees earned it that name. The island is popular for the ominous rumors that surround it. Many rumors said notorious gang members resided in that place. There were also rumors of a human trafficking ring there and anyone who entered the island never came back, federal criminals also escaped to the island, it was no news. For popularity, a team of YouTube streamers once tried to enter the island while live streaming but as soon as they went a little deep into the forest, their signals were cut off and they were never to be seen, again.

Marie Elizabeth Owens climbed off the sailboat and stood on the shore of the island that was to be her new home, her fresh start.
