Up above, I saw the glint of a rifle barrel between the balcony rails. Sniper. He had a bead on the east side, where Wade’s men were pinned. I pulled the knife from my vest, weighed it once in my hand, and flicked it. The blade sank into his thigh, deep enough to drop him to his knees. He tried to get his aim back up, but I was already halfway up the service stairs, taking them two at a time.
By the time he spotted me, my hand was on his rifle. I wrenched it sideways, shoved the barrel under his jaw, and pulled the trigger. His head snapped back, and he slumped against the rail, spilling red across the polished wood.
