Surprisingly tidy, the cottage looked as though its owners had just taken a quick break. A shabby armchair by the fireplace had a plain wool blanket folded neatly over its back. Selene placed the satchel on the table and pulled out a chair. She took out the Book of Dark Shadows with steady hands. Under her fingertips, the leather cover felt ancient and chilly. As she opened it, the old pages turned with a whisper and her chest constricted. Every word she read made her heart pound in her ears. She found the chapter on ancient pacts and rituals she was looking for by skimming the table of contents and tracing the titles with her finger.

Of all the stores, one in particular was not barricaded. He studied it and noticed swirling darkness beneath, as if a black smog or a murky water filled it from the inside. He took two steps towards it when the glass that kept it from the outside world shattered, along with the other storefronts around and behind them. Elongated shadows streaked from the stores. Lukas noticed the white porcelain faces on the top of the six entities. He raised his aim and fired at the face of the entity near him.

She longed for his presence. Her eyes suddenly fell on that black book she saw the other day. The one about book of shadows, or something like that. She leaned forward and pulled it out of the rest books. The book was heavy and thick, with a thick black leather cover. She tried to open it but it wouldn't budge. "Strange",she whispered. The book wasn't locked or glued together. She could see it through the pages. There was a purple coloured stone at the front cover and she wondered if it was what held the book together.

I commanded, my voice echoing with a resonance that was not entirely my own. ​The iron bolts groaned, a sound like a giant waking from a long slumber. The door swung open slowly, revealing a chamber filled with a soft, ethereal glow. Thousands of scrolls were tucked into honeycomb shelves that reached into the darkness above, and in the center stood a pedestal made of pure obsidian. On it sat the book, bound in skin that shimmered like a raven’s wing. ​"The Book of Shadows," Lila whispered, her torch flickering as if the room itself were trying to snuff it out. "It actually exists."
