I laid my hand over the glass, peering down at the book and reading the Latin words umbra. The book opened beneath the glass when I spoke the word. It flipped to a page with Shade's name on it. There was a tiny baby handprint in blood…my blood, my baby hand.

I replied back as I stretched my hands to remove the painting but it didn’t move, instead it slid and revealed a medium sized box. I took the box out and placed it on the desk. It was an old mahogany box with gold engravings on it. “Sinclair” I opened it carefully and revealed a very thick brown greenish book with about 200 pages made of parchment or something like and had the title written on it with big bold handwriting: “BOOK OF SHADOWS” I smiled happily, I couldn’t believe that I had it in my hands and looked at Kevin who was still anxious saying: “We found it” he nodded his head and was about to speak when we suddenly heard an applause behind us.

“I will extract every last scrap of humanity within you and once you have been taken by the darkness I will end you.” Yet her promises sounded hollow, her threats weak even to her own ears, Vanadine thought and he disregarded them with disdain. He leaned in close, smelling the mixture of rot, mushrooms and diseased flesh that made her natural perfume, with disgust. “You know why I still come here?” He asked, whispering in her pointed ear. “To remind myself of what I must never become. To remind myself of what happens if I let the darkness win. And to pity the thing that once was my friend,” he added. “Goodbye, Horann, I will not be returning again.”

Am I going to die? "Seems as though you find the bookshelf to be a world full of chocolates and cakes, no?" His voice continued, sinister. I turned around, blanketing my nervousness and caution towards him. He took a step towards me and I felt myself shift back. I was scared and I couldn't deny that. Somehow, I could tell he knew I saw the gun, his eyes seemed even darker. "S-" I couldn't get my words together, even my nerves weren't working at this point.

I swallowed hard, heart pounding as I fought the urge to call out. And then I saw it…a shadow, darker than it should be, detaching itself from the corner of the room. It wavered for a moment, like a trick of the light, then moved with purpose, swirling closer around my feet. My breath caught in my throat as the darkness stretched out, curling around me, cocooning me in an otherworldly embrace. I knew what this was. I’d seen in the book of supernaturals, whispered stories of creatures that could manipulate shadows…wolves with abilities beyond the norm. I never believed them… until now.
