Mate's Gamble
Her hand takes mine, and she brings it to her lips, kissing it with a shuddering breath.
“He didn’t break you.” I tell her. Her eyes close and she shakes her head.
“He did,” she whispers, and shakes her head. “He did, and broken people hurt the people they love.”
I suppose her words make sense, and in a sick way, it makes the love deprived little girl in me feel a little better. Pain should never ever make someone think they are loved, but right now, in this dense fucking cloud of pain and agonizing memories…it feels like ice on an old injury. It’s soothing for now. It will flare up later and hurt again. But right now, it’s okay.
