The older colleague closed the conversation from his end, leaving me with my much reduced hums.
The song was about the artist’s childhood with a broken home, and how he felt scared growing up on the streets of Detroit without a father close. I didn’t exactly relate, but I knew my life had changed since the demise of my father, so each time the lyrics sang out, I did too.
“You and the guy with a gun. Are you brothers?” the older man turned to ask.
“Yes sir. We are, I guess,” I shrugged.
“Guess?” his brows furrowed, in a bid to understand what I meant.
