November 2026, Scars Bay, USA Katerina Alaric was a great artist. That was an undeniable fact. There were a few paintings of his that I could look at for hours without getting bored. There were so many intricate details in them that the longer you look at them, the more things you find. This one, in particular, was the painting of the High Street, one of the main streets in downtown Scars Bay.

"Well, doesn’t she?” Mitch said. “Hell, no,” Dean said. “She paints some of the most fearless stuff I’ve ever seen.” Mitch blinked. “She did that incredible series about addiction – remember it, Jim?” Jim nodded. “Yeah. Wrecked people, all broken into pieces… they looked like shattered glass. It was fucking amazing. And no pastels anywhere, man. Hot pinks and reds and yellows. Everything she does just screams at you.”

A man on the boat reached out his hand to help me up. His face was hidden in shadow, but I could see a scar running down his cheek. I watched the flames and bid farewell to my former self. From this moment on, there was no more Serena Ferrari. From now on, I would become my own queen.

I looked closer and for the first time saw how his arms looked. Their were scars everywhere, the scars had formed unique patterns horizontal, vertical, diagonal, like a wire mesh. Nobody did that fir attention. Each cut, each line was a representation of a pain on its own. It represented a battle and struggle that was overcome.

Elena winced. "Ow, my head," she groaned in pain as she looked around. Where was she? She looked around again. It was wide room with small windows covered by dirty curtains, making it suffocating. The paint on the wall was faded, different stains and marks plastered to it. There was a wooden table and chair at the corner of the room, several empty crates, bottles and cigarettes box laying carelessly around. It looked like an old abandoned room.

Only I know how these looks of pity feel . No one knows....you may call scars beautiful but you know the one who actually has them. Knows deep somewhere in their heart, how ugly they look. Something which was so perfect, something so flawless that every one envied it. Was now just an object of pity. The skin which was perfect once, is tarnished now. And you know the worst part? No matter what you do. It will never....be like it was before. What's lost can never return. Sulking ,she didn't realised when the sun was down from the horizon and it was dark.
