Chapter 25 (Sophia's POV) Paris was beautiful in the morning. I'd forgotten that. Or perhaps I'd never properly noticed, every previous Paris trip had been consumed entirely by work, by collections, by the relentless forward momentum that had defined my life since I was twenty-two and Laurent Luxe was held together by determination and very little else. This morning I noticed. I stood on the hotel balcony with coffee and watched the city wake up slowly, the way cities that understood their own significance always did, unhurried and certain.

I shake my head with a smile. "No, I wouldn't." "She has a mind of her own." Adrian replies with a shrug of his shoulders. Turning back to them, he continues their discussion. I don't want to be engaged in their conversation, I just want to stay on my own for now. The beautiful city is all I need to keep myself busy, the aesthetic trees, infrastructures and fashion houses along the road are indeed splendid. One thing I've been hearing of Paris is their love for fashion and their great taste. We've passed about eight fashion houses so far.

So while he sat in a boardroom being intimidatingly competent, I took myself on a solo tour of the city with a croissant in one hand and a badly folded map in the other, because I refused to be the kind of person who stared at their phone in Paris. I found a bookshop on a narrow street that seemed to exist outside of time entirely, the kind with books stacked floor to ceiling and a cat asleep on the counter and an elderly owner who spoke no English but somehow understood exactly what I was looking for anyway. I spent an hour there and left with ten books and zero regrets.

But she shook her head, "Don't thank me just yet. We still need to hear what he has to say." Later that day, in the evening, when Paris returned home, he found me in the living room, going through books that had storied on the ancient pack and he leveled me with one of his scary gazes, "Should you not be somewhere packing your things?" he asked, and I pressed my lips together, "about that, Paris…" I said, setting the book aside, and he held up his hand, a gesture that so resembled his mothers and I bit my lower lip,

"Ah, excellent choice. Le Bon Marché is a true Parisian experience. You’ll love it." As we drove through the city, I couldn’t help but gaze out at the passing sights—the elegant architecture, the bustling cafés, and the effortless chicness of the people walking along the streets. There was something about Paris that made everything feel more magical, like every corner held a secret waiting to be discovered. “How long have you been working for Mike?” I asked, curious about the man who had been so seamlessly a part of our trip. Arthur's eyes flickered to the rearview mirror again, and I caught the faintest trace of a smile.

“Even the fruit tastes different here. Sweet, but sharp.” Pierre smiles knowingly. “Paris changes everything, Princess. Even the smallest things.” He bows, kisses the back of my hand lightly. “Rest well. Tomorrow, you will begin to see Paris as I see her. Alive. Bold. Eternal.” When the door closes behind him, I sink into the velvet chair, my heart racing. The city hums outside, vibrant and restless.

Paris, for me, was just the same as New York. A well-known place that most people dream of going to. But for me, they are just a place. I don’t even know what these people see in these places to make them say that they love it. I know that Ems didn’t ask me to bring her anything, but I just can’t help it. Seeing a small bookshop, I decided to go in and see if there was anything that Ems liked. I checked the shelves to see if there was any particular book that might make her happy, but came out with nothing.
