I was about to be mauled to death. "It's okay..." I say tensely. My body trembling with fright. "Here, you can have him back. You see I was protecting him. There was an eagle and it was going to get him but he's okay. See, you're welcome..." Slowly but surely I put Poppy back onto the floor and it padded towards his mother. Yet, the mother still growled. I backed up... "Where is Paw Patrol when you need em'." The dog barked, hard and loud, and I didn't grasp the level of stupid I am until that very moment when I pointed at the dog and yelled, "Bad dog!"

--- Rage followed Rex on his first patrol into the North. The grey wolf was too old to run much anymore. But its grandson, the small grey wolf Sylvan had brought back from the forest, was already grown. Rage had named him Firepaw—for the patch of dark red fur on his right front paw. He walked behind Rex with Firepaw at his side, across the ice plains for a whole day. When he returned, his boots were covered in frozen soil and ice chips. He ran to Luna and held up the small handful of thistle root tendrils clutched in his fist for her to see.

Only a handful of warriors had the authority to breach my privacy without permission, and right now, the man standing in the threshold was the last person I expected to see. It was Mason, the Lead Ranger of our outer territorial scouts—a warrior who had spent the last three years deep in the untamed dead zones, tracking the migration patterns of the rogue packs. His heavy caribou-fur cloak was caked in dried grey mud, his face hollowed by exhaustion, and his boots left dark, melted patches of slush on the stone floor.

One was in clerical garb, pale-skinned, light-haired, and with a serene expression that didn’t really match the vibe of the moment; the other was in ranger's gear, dark-skinned and black-haired, huffing and puffing. “We said not to run off and-” the ranger froze as he noticed the dying creature. “Oh for…” “He was just saving a pretty lady,” the one in clerical garb said, patting the ranger on the shoulder. “Sorry, Eli, Mikael. I heard the rogue and-” “Yeah, yeah,” Mikael said, waving his hand dismissively before crouching down and inspecting the creature. “What-who-” Peggy stuttered. “After all that, he hasn’t even done the decent thing and introduced himself,” Eli sighed.

"What's with the masks, anyway?" Mary's eyes glittered behind her own feathered creation. "That's the fun part. Everyone's anonymous. You could be dancing next to the mayor or making out with a movie star, and you'd never know." I snorted. "Yeah, because that happens to environmental engineers all the time." As we inched closer to the entrance, a sleek black car pulled up to the curb. The back door opened, and a man stepped out – tall, broad-shouldered, exuding an aura of barely contained power. Even with half his face hidden behind a simple black mask, there was something familiar about him.

Hank, too, is staring at my momma with lust in his eyes. “Take her to the lineup.” Momma says to the women and I’m pulled away and I act terrified. I know I will be saved, but I have to act scared. I hear a roar and turn my head and I see the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. This must be the Patger. It is pacing nervously in the cage. It’s all black with faint orange stripes underneath. The face is like a tiger. It has amber-green eyes. It looks right at me and I just stare back. This is so wrong.

Phoenix’ POV Ranger and Ryder arrived only seconds after Antonellia’s muppets, sorry, puppets, came around the corner and onto the beach. They are as grotesque as they are stupid, with beer bellies, scraggly hair, and gnarly teeth. These fuckers have been on our radar for months, and from what we have seen so far, I’m surprised they survived infancy. So much for the theory of natural selection.

I revealed a little sheepishly. "I did here that we had a new Luna. It's nice to meet you. I'm Parker. The head warrior." He introduced himself. "It's nice to meet you." I say. "What are you doing out here this early?" He asked. "I couldn't sleep. So I wanted to come out and practice. I didn't go into the woods because I knew that the patrols would probably consider me a threat. Especially since I had weapons with me. But I promise, I'm just practicing." I explain pointing to the target on the tree. He turned to look at it and nodded his head.

Dahlia spoke up as the wolf approached my father. “That’s an oddly powerful yet strange looking wolf,” Troy commented. “Who’s Arthur?” Angelo asked. “The wolf,” Kieran replied. “Who does the wolf belong to?” Boris followed up. “Paxton,” I replied. I already knew about his destiny. “PAXTON?” the guys asked in disbelief. He was pretty large for a ten year old. He was almost as large as Skye. “Yes, Paxton Keller! Now can we please get on with this?” Dahlia said impatiently. She’s a great guardian.
