Novel & Cerita Payback By Samk

“I'll accept them, but only because I know that you believe in me, in my ability to be able to pay you back someday.” Samuel's smile broadened, and he reached across the table to gently squeeze my hand. Seems like there was a light in his eyes, a hint of something unsaid, something deeper.

Sam took a drink and lay back on the lounge, "I have to defend my thesis in two months. I was ready to when the accident happened, I postponed my defense. I'm just now getting back to preparing. I guess I'll head back." "Do you have to be there to prepare?" I asked. Sam put her beer down, looked across my sister to me, "No I don't." "Do you have a place to live back there? Your house?" I asked. Sam looked down, "No. I had to sell everything. There were bills."

“I didn’t mean to ditch my responsibilities. I’ll pay back everything you’ve spent on me and my son.” My eyes stayed glued to the floor, fear and guilt churning inside. Sam had done so much for me and Noah. It felt awful saying this. “Sha, you know that’s not the issue, right?” Sam’s gaze was firm, cutting through my excuses. All I could manage was a weak sigh. He wasn’t letting me hide my problems. Who cared about me repaying money? To him, it was pocket change. He knew that.

That person, of course, was Amy. I shook as I opened my laptop and looked up Adam's financial history. He owned a fur trading business called ‘Moon's Embrace’ up in the snowy north. Every single gift he had ever given me—the pendant with a wolf's tooth, the bracelet made of vines, and the cloak of wolf fur—was listed as part of his company's inventory. I used to think those gifts were special and just for me. That was until I peeked at Amy's social media and saw fancier versions of everything he had ever given me.

That's draconian! "Once I was short fifty dollars, they told me the same thing." "Now they want the money back when they overpaid? Double standards!" Public opinion flipped in an instant. Those who had just pointed at me were now criticizing the bank. I stopped the recording and looked at Pete. "Did you hear that? It was your employee, speaking directly to me. 'Not responsible once you leave the counter.' That is your rule—your ironclad rule. "I am a law-abiding citizen. If the bank's rule says the money isn't your responsibility, then it's mine.
