Paying It Forward 소설 & 이야기

I didn’t know how to react. “I... I can’t take this,” I stammered, shaking my head even though I wanted to. “You’ve already done so much for me.” “Nonsense,” he replied firmly, pressing the money into my hand. “I believe in paying it forward. Someday, when ya able, you can help someone else in need. That’s how the world should work.” I was almost close to tears but I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded. “Thank you,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. “Thank you so much.”

“Payback.” “Uh?” She crosses her arms to her chest and speaks neatly. “I’m here to pay you back for making use of your time the last time we were together.” “I’m not following.” She stares me down as if I’m dumb and maybe I am. Since when do people get a payback for spending time with another person? “You did me a favor,” she starts, one word leaving her mouth at a time as if she’s speaking to a child. “And I don’t like owing others. That’s why I’m here to pay you back for that favor. Then we can go on with our lives.”

" You worry alot, all for nothing." I say and walk over to the coffee maker. I know I brought this upon myself and my family. The universe is paying me back for my sins. I caused this all. The death of my father months ago, the misfortune of my family's business.. The never ending suffering of my mom and I. I sigh. There is nothing that can be done. I just have to live through it. This is a curse that only I should bear. A price I have to pay for my atrocity. An atrocity committed two years ago, hunting my very soul for retribution.

"There are times when learning from the experience of others pays off. You'd learn to see what made them stumble and to stop walking when you see them fall. We just have to wait and let someone else be the pathfinder." Jacob nodded, enlightened. "I understand, prez! Your words are an inspiration!" Still, Mr. Bay sighed. "Indeed. See, favors are like gears—it has to go both ways to keep the entire machine running. It's just like today, helping me means helping my friend indirectly. He will move forward, and we will move forward in tandem." Jacob nodded repeatedly in agreement, sighing in admiration. "Your experience has really been enlightening to me, prez!" Mr. Bay nodded in turn. "Well, I'm

“This is all the money you’ve given for my scholarship. Not a cent less. I’ve worked tons of part-time jobs just to pay you back as soon as possible. Thank you for your help. I can’t thank you enough.” Mark was surprised. He did not think that she had worked so many part time jobs just for this. He paused and said, “You don’t have to pay me back. I’ve provided financial aid for many people and I’ve never thought of getting a single cent back. Isn’t that the whole point of charity?”

He walked toward the table, "You're upset." "Of course I'm upset." I answered. He picked up his phone. Then his expression changed. He seemed to make a decision. A moment later, my phone vibrated. I looked down. I had received a transfer notification. Three million dollars. I stared at the screen. Adrian looked at me, "Use that to compensate yourself." My mouth opened. For several seconds, I couldn't speak. Three million dollars. The anger inside me didn't disappear completely. But it weakened.

"A very exact wish for a woman who says she seeks only payback." "Payback is merely what stays when you remove every softer term a person might choose for wanting another to suffer exactly as much as you have suffered." I stood from the rock suddenly eager for the talk to finish before my own firmness found a new way to fail. "Do we share a deal or must I think again whether this plan helps either of us."

"Ethan, if you refuse to help, I'll opt for another way out." With that, he left the meeting room. The sound of footsteps gradually faded away in the corridor. When Wynnie walked past me, she paused and whispered, "Young man, you should leave yourself a way out." After they left, I opened up the envelope. It wasn't sealed, and there was a banker's acceptance from Zach Airways under the offer letter. It was for three million dollars. I kept the envelope in a transparent bag, sealed it, and wrote the date and number on it.

She cheered when the others succeeded, offered advice when they struggled, celebrated with them when they won. Lyra approached her one afternoon. "You're going to be back out there soon." Freya nodded. "I can't wait." "You'll be stronger than before. The injury will heal. The memory will fade." "I know." Freya looked at her. "But I'll never forget what you did for me. For all of us." "You don't have to remember. Just pay it forward. Help someone else when they need it." Freya smiled. "I will." ---

She understood what it meant when they say people are flawed but still worth an inch of you. “Thank you.” She smiled. “I was just returning a favor. When I was in your place, there were several people who stood by me and helped me get through the madness. Now, I am doing the same thing. I may not pay those people back, but I am sure that I would like to pay the favor forward.” “Kindness overflows, creating a ripple effect that makes our world a better place.” She added that, which made me frown in confusion. “How do you do it? How can you still be kind when the world was cruel to you?”
