Moon Touched
Hackles rise under my skin, instincts snarling warnings I ignore.
I crouch and drag my fingers through the dirt, breathing in slow, controlled pulls.
There.
Under pine and frost and something foreign.
Pearl.
Fainter than she used to be. Sharper. Leaner. She’s learned how to move without panicking. That alone tells me too much.
And woven through her trail like a second spine.
Someone else, someone unfamiliar.
My jaw tightens.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” I murmur.
Pearl has hooked up with someone else, not Agnes.
