Mara leaned closer to me, whispering, “You don’t have to.”
Maya whispered louder, “But it would be legendary.”
I closed my eyes for half a second hoping Ivy would scream and call me stupid but she was silent.
However, for the first time, hunger wasn’t just pain. It was energy. It was something alive, something mine.
I opened my eyes.
“Fine,” I said. “I’ll do it.”
The man’s face lit up like he’d just won the lottery.
