Penny called sweetly, “more tissue.” I handed her another one. I always had them ready. “It’s not her fault she looks like this,” Penny said, smiling at the maids. She turned to me with that fake sugar-glazed expression. “Pimples. Braces. Glasses.” She sighed like she was listing a tragedy. “All the signs of an ugly girl,” she finished. She blew her nose loudly. The sound was thick and wet, and the tissue drooped from the weight of it. For someone who looked like a magazine cover, she always had stuff leaking out of her.

POV: KAI The press box smells like musty coffee and old popcorn. I sit in the back row, laptop balanced on my knees, hoodie zipped to my chin. The collar still hides most of the mark, but I feel it every time I swallow. Like a reminder I can't delete. Game starts fast. Puck drops. The crowd roars. I type without looking down much—habit now. The Ice Hawks are up early, but it's not the score I'm watching.

Keller's hungry eyes on her pert bottom. Penny was only eighteen, still at school and only worked for the middle-aged obese Mr. Keller on Saturdays to make a little bit of extra money which she mostly spent on clothes and music. Her father had got her the job with Mr. Keller, a fellow churchgoer and family man, recommending Penny as a hard worker who always had a smile on her face, which was absolutely true. She often felt her smile slipping though when Mr. Keller stood a little too closely behind her or made her bend down in front of him to pick something off the lower shelves in the storeroom at the back of the shop.

Did all those expenses just magically vanish when it came to everyone else? Joe's face hardened, his voice turning cold. "Cassian Golding, watch your tone! This company has always treated everyone fairly." My fists curled so tight my nails bit into my palms. "Fine. If you keep insisting the company is bleeding money and my commission is only worth 50 cents, then answer me. "How did Sasha's personal bank account suddenly grow by 200 thousand dollars?"

I stared at the coin in my hand; it was large, unlike an actually penny , I realized it must have been some sort of a decorative piece or an heirloom as it was pure gold . I knew he looked sophisticated and rich but this mind of wealth ? No it was surreal . I cant believe my eyes. " It's a family heirloom." Jeremy Sanchez spoke confirming my thoughts . I raised my eyebrow in confusion; "Why are you giving this to me ?" I asked with a whisper . " Like I said , a penny for your tears . Tell me, what is bothering you ?" He asked again , as he reached over to wipe my tears. My face was covered with mud as i fell on the floor earlier .

Fortunately, the doll fell off the edge of the exit, and Hannah felt a little relieved in her heart: "You were pretty lucky today." Kendall glanced at her and said, "Today wasn't a good day." "Why don't you head back up to the museum and ask the ranger there for some stickers? Ask him for the super special ones. He'll know what you mean." She winked at the girls before straightening again. Penny had always been good with kids. Xavier wasn't surprised that was still the case. Watching her now, with that kind affection in her eyes, he found himself wondering if, in these past few years, she'd ever...

"What is this penny nonsense? I will have to hire another accountant to do these calculations." "Oh, that won't be necessary. If you could just draft the paperwork with the phrase, 'payment in exponential increment' for the next thirty days, and then ask your accountant to pay me daily through this new owner of yours, that would be sufficient." "Hmm.. hold on a minute. A penny on the first day, twelve pennies make one shilling. So you will hardly make over five shillings by the end of the first week. That's less than the minimum wage of a worker. Are you sure?"

Just as Penny finished removing her makeup and taking a shower in her tiny bathroom, her phone rang. “Cain? This has better be good. I have had a rough night.” Penny rush out. It was bad enough that her money was slashed. “Luck is on you. I have a proposition for you, okay? With the requirements, you are the only one that can do it. I don’t trust the other girls We are gonna split the money.” Cain said, coughing.

Penny’s brown eyes darter down to it, ungraciously grabbing my hand to examine the ring. “Is this what I think it is?” I nodded, “yeah.” She twisted my hand in all directions possible, making use of the light coming from the large window beside us, taking a closer view of the gem. Her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets while she swayed her head. “I have a feeling about this Xavier guy.”
