Elena screamed as her body arched off the table, every nerve electrified. Damien pinned her shoulders down. “Elena! Zavian’s eyes narrowed in the dim lighting as the magic vanished into her veins, leaving behind a strange, thrumming resonance that echoed all the way up his arm. This was impossible! A human could not absorb primordial power like a sponge, yet she was doing exactly that, wrapping around his energy and creating a quiet, invisible tether between them. It suddenly made terrifying sense why her scent drove him to the edge of madness, bypassing his strong control. She was magnetically drawn to his power, absorbing it as if they were two halves of the same ancient equation.
