"In our horror game, the cosmetics are provided by the studio, but because our instance performs so poorly, our budget is tiny. That's why our makeup never looks good and fails to draw in viewers." I caught a word in her explanation. "Viewers?" She gave a small clap. "Exactly. The live comments in horror games aren't from humans—they come from ghosts watching the stream. It's the same as how you humans watch reality shows." I raised a brow. "So there are a lot of ghosts tuning in?"

"Why? Why? I just wanted to go home. That's all I wanted." I pulled her into a hug, my voice low. "It's okay. It's over. You can live now. Really live." She nodded through the tears, watching as I headed for the next floor. Floor 28. The player was already gone. I leaned in, careful. "Hello? Anyone home?" No reply—just barking. Then it stepped out. A three-headed hellhound, jaws soaked in blood. One head was half-destroyed, brain matter leaking out.

“After the last hunter incursion, nobody’s dumb enough to try again.” “Double it,” Xavier ordered. “I want every patrol twice over.” “Where do we attack?” Sophie asked. “We can’t fight ghosts.” Amara, her dark eyes shadowed beneath her hood, stepped forward. “We’ve seen movement in the swamps. An old hag hiding a power that’s truly dark. If we’re right, it will be ghosts we’re fighting.” “That’s the first place we look,” Fintan agreed, his voice like gravel. “All signs point there.”

The image of a demonic, clawed creature tearing through my stomach flashed in my mind. My vision blackened with terror. "Don't listen to it!" Kate yelled, grabbing my arm. "It's not real! Think about something." I turned my head slowly to her. But she would soon be a part of this illusion. Damon suddenly screamed, firing two shots into an empty bush. "Get away from me! You’re dead! I buried you in the desert!" He was sweating profusely, his eyes wide and bloodshot as he stared at an empty space. He was clearly seeing ghosts…

She cleared their confusion. Omar looked on in bewilderment. "Doppelganger??"

He asked, the noise of his voice hidden beneath the shrill screeched of bats and monster alike. “Kill it?” I suggested. “Good idea,” he agreed. I drew my skeletons out of the forest in a ring around the monster, drawing its eye from the bats to the new prey. For a moment it and the skeletons were still and then it launched itself at them with a scuttling speed that reminded me of a cockroach. As it tossed the skeletons high, Phantom and I struck, running between its spiny legs, to its underbelly, stabbing our blades into the join between the armor that protected its core.

Scott experiencing a panic attack, teleported back to the house, checking to see if he missed something. He was in so much of an hurry, panicking as his movements. He moved round the entire house in an instant and he didn't pick up on her trail, smell or any indication left behind.
