Neo Manila: Rise of the New Gods

Neo Manila: Rise of the New Gods

“When the tiniest of infractions, like an unintentional death of a butterfly, could then snowball into drastic changes in history.” – Ray Bradbury, on the Butterfly Effect The Philippines have become a different place. Its history had jumped off a cliff and landed belly-flop onto a pool of peculiar circumstances. From this arose something out of the ordinary and remarkable. It is a weird thing, like a primordial creature with newly evolved limbs, surfacing out from some prehistoric swamp bringing forth strange life. It is something that grasps our imagination and unsettles our core beliefs.

The Boyfriend App

For dessert, Ecto feasts his virtual eyes on the glazed top of leche flan – the Filipino crème caramel – and the very colorful coconut salad. Nate sleeps in a sleeping bag in the living room and then, come 4:00 a.m., he and Kate attend the Night Masses. There’s a popular belief in the Philippines that if someone completes all the nine early-morn Masses, from December 16 to 24, they can make a wish and the Christian God will grant it. It’s too bad that CITS students didn’t start their Christmas break until December 21 because Kate and Nate stood no chance of completing the Night Masses.

GONE ASTRAY

GONE ASTRAY

Granted the mortality rate for that specific surgery was low, he didn’t lift one damn finger to give Tonya’s death some sort of meaning, or at the very least pretended that there was still a microscopic part in his brain that cared for his late wife. Divorce is non-existent in the Philippines, and infidelity – no matter how frequent – is not considered a legal basis for annulment. Her early and unexpected demise made Tonya miss the chance of creating a last will or filing a power of attorney, ultimately giving her husband the rights to her assets regardless of how much her ghost screamed and cursed. Akira remembered Tonya saying, “That cheating bastard melted everything down and then gave my

He clicked the link, which this time took him to a Wikipedia page. Scanning the text, Father Ward found a more detailed description of Baal-hammon: a fertility god of sky, harvest and prosperity. The Ascension

The Ascension

It was just sad that there were really so few pieces of information online as the local gods worshipped by their ancestors were nowhere as famous as the Greek, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, and Norse deities. Amongst the so-called first generation gods, Bathala the Great Creator, was naturally the most famous. Although it was only in the country, songs and novels using his name circulated. On the other hand, Sitan, Chief Deity of the Underworld was somebody unfamiliar. Moreover, his name was often misinterpreted as a localized, if not wrong spelling, version of that particular snake slash evil entity from Christian texts. Ley tried to browse the other list of deities. But the more he looked at i

Quite the unique story in this website. I have read until chapter 50, it's a nice fantasy that is also like just a slice of life, at times heavy, at times just like a breath of fresh air. Only problem is the expensive chapters. Good work though.

The Peculiar Morass

The Peculiar Morass

The Philippines is one of the Southeast Asian countries that have rich culture even before her husband's descendant conquers. The Binatbatan Festival traces its roots from the abel weaving industry of Vigan that existed even before the Spaniards came to colonize the Philippines. It comes from the word batbat, a pair of bamboo sticks used to separate cotton pods that come from a tall tree called kapas sanglay. The word "kapas" from kapas sanglay means "cotton" in Ilocano.

THE LUNA BRIDE FROM TOMORROW

THE LUNA BRIDE FROM TOMORROW

Just who is this master, really? My intuition brought me back to a recollection of a very slight fact about it when I was helping Thalia in finding details about the legendary Kampilan. It took me quite the research about weaponry in the pre-colonial times that time and I can't be wrong about this weapon. If I am not mistaken, that's the powerful Sinalawatan owned by one of Bathala's allied Gods and Goddesses. That God used to protect the mountains until he turned into the God of the Seas.

Beneath The Shadows

Abantay asked. "Sitan, when his pure blood servants haven't materialized in our world yet, my parents, and their parents and their parents before them were already devout worshippers of that deity. All of us, one tribe, worshipping that esoteric deity while using Islam as a cover to our true religion." He laughed, "I, for one, thought that it was all crap. However, the followers of Bathala and some of the Tikbalangs allied to them came and slaughtered everyone in my village. I was a teenager back then." He pointed at the scar on his left eye, that when illuminated bright enough, was visible. "They gave me this." "What's with the life story?" Nagar asked.
