Chapter 3: Let It Go Not sure enough credit is given to the serene city of Phoenix. I mean sure, it wasn't the richest city, but it wasn’t the poorest. It wasn't the most beautiful, but it wasn't the ugliest either. It was just... there, I guess. But at the same time, it felt so peaceful. So loud yet so quiet. So, exhilarating yet calming at the same time. It was during afternoon drives like this, one really appreciated the little things this peaceful city joyously gave, but from the look on Marcus's face, the city could burn down to its very last atom for all he cared.

“So Jade could still activate it?” “She has activated it,” Adrian replied. “That’s what she meant.” Nathaniel whistled. “Well, guess we better kill the heart now that the brain is gone.” Adrian turned to Grace. “We need to go to Jakarta.” She blinked. “Jakarta?” Adrian nodded. “That’s where Phoenix is hidden. Beneath an orphanage.” Meanwhile, in the Shadows Jade stood on the balcony of a luxury penthouse in Venice, dressed in silk and fury. Behind her, a man with silver hair and cold eyes adjusted his tie.

3RD PERSON POV. The night was quite short for Phoenix as all she did was ruminate over her predicament. Early in the morning of the next day which was today, Phoenix rose quietly from the bed being careful enough not to wake Isis up. She succeeded and rushed to take a shower.

She was barely concerned about the excited people running after the procession heading for the king’s castle, she was barely concerned about the fanfare, the people she had to push aside to get through the crowd of people. When she finally broke free and made her way to the edge of the forest she broke into a run. The leaves of shrubs and trees brushed her legs, her arms, her face but she didn’t care. I held my breath when Phoenix realized she wasn’t alone. I gulped when she looked at me for a second, and then what she did was least expected. I’ve never thought of that reaction. My entire world shook under my feet.

"I can’t believe I missed you two idiots bickering this much." "You didn’t miss us," Phoenix said brightly. "You missed the entertainment we provide for free." "You’re not wrong," Gerard admitted with a smirk. "So," Christopher said, stretching lazily in his chair. "What about you, Phoenix? What have you been doing besides getting kicked out of various countries?" Phoenix grinned, "I resent that. I have not been kicked out of all the countries. Some of them invite me back just to make sure I leave again." The boys chuckled, and Phoenix launched into a wildly animated story about "accidentally" crashing a yacht party in Santorini and being mistaken for a tech billionaire's girlfriend.

He was surprised to see me in Phoenix's office. "Hi.." He said as he walked to me giving me a light hug. "Hi." "Where's Phoenix?" He asked as he sat on the sofa across me. "He went out with his mother and his friend, Lorena." I said and Adrian raised his eyebrows. "That's a definition of a shit show." He chuckled but I didn't respond anything. I checked my watch to see if it's already 10 minutes or not. "You're waiting for him?" He asked and I shook my head.

The fabric pooled at her feet, leaving her in nothing but black lace and the phoenix tattoo on her wrist that marked her rebirth. Rafael's intake of breath was audible. "Jesus, Natalie. You're..." "What?" "Perfect." He traced the tattoo with one finger, his touch feather-light. "This is beautiful. What does it mean?" The question hit her like a physical blow. The phoenix was everything—her death, her rebirth, her transformation from victim to avenger. It was the symbol of rising from ashes, of becoming something stronger and more dangerous than what came before. But she couldn't tell him that. So she gave him a version of the truth instead.
