The crack of the slap rang out clearly in the silence of the villa. Lucy’s face turned pale, with a red welt swelling on her cheek. She stumbled back, clutching her stomach, and collapsed into Pierce’s arms. Looking at their hateful glares, I realized that any lingering feelings I had for Pierce were completely gone. I met Pierce’s gaze, my voice raw and broken. "Pierce, I wish you’d drop dead right now."

He clambered onto the stage with a bottle in one hand, snatched the mic with the other, and slurred into it, “I’m celebrating tonight! Drinks on me! My sister is finally dead!” The crowd was too hammered to register the words. Someone heard “free drinks” and started cheering. That was all it took. The music thundered as Shane raised his bottle and drained it, hot tears streaking down his face. Whether they came from rage, relief, or regret, even he couldn’t tell. Then—bam. A punch landed square across his jaw. Shane stumbled back several steps, lost his balance, and landed hard on the floor. He spat out a mouthful of blood with a snarl.

Her movements were still a bit stiff, but she followed the pattern engraved in her mind. "Woohoo!" Ivy suddenly exclaimed, letting out a breathless laugh. "It's just a dummy after all. I guess you were joking when you said it could move. I must have been hallucinating earlier." She shook her head lightly and laughed again. But then.... PUNCH! A heavy punch suddenly landed squarely on Ivy's face. The impact sent her stumbling backward before she crashed hard onto the ground. Her laughter was abruptly cut off, replaced by a sharp gasp of pain. Her vision blurred for a second, and a ringing sensation echoed in her ears as the force of the blow spread through her skull.

I knew I was asking for death but I didn't care. The first punch to my stomach knocked the breath out of my lung but I welcomed the sting and the pain with a smile. Another punch made me feel like throwing up my guts, then it was followed by another, then another until my eyes darkened around the edges and all I could see was the hazy red of blood.
