I ask, wrinkling my nose, catching the subtle undertone in Xavier's words about the limitations of my strength compared to a man's, despite my self-defense skills.
"We didn't get to dance tonight, and I was really looking forward to it," he says wistfully, changing the subject.
"That's on you," I reply, leaning back into the couch, switching my legs, and holding the phone to my other ear to massage my other foot.
"I couldn't intrude," Xavier states, maintaining his stance. "What Ezra Watson Pierce has joined together, let no man put asunder," he chimes, his deep baritone resonating in my ear.
