The Luna on a Chain
Each one was some shade of red, blending together in my tired eyes.
“Why not try a different color?” I asked lazily.
“Dress code,” Maura replied, wrestling with a stubborn zipper. “All women in red.”
Strange rules. But remembering the décor, I exhaled in relief. Better red—the color of passion—than pink.
Maura chose a floor-length silk gown the color of ripe cherries. I had to admit, it suited her beautifully. At my approving nod, she purchased it.
Exhausted, we returned home. After lunch—during which I nearly fell asleep at the table—I went straight to the bedroom. The moment my head touched the pillow, I drifted off.
