He narrowed his gaze at the man. “You must drink this Jormungand, and wait two minutes. Then you must bite her, inject her. I know you can. That you have venom.” He became more leery then, and he looked at Max.

We had been so deep in conversation that neither of us had heard the Eater sneak up on us. We trained our weapons on it ready to defend ourselves. The translucent pallor of her skin allowed the blue and red vessels underneath to pop like they were all going to burst at once. At the bottom, a pair of knee-high boots waited, soft but sturdy. I stared at them, surprised. “ These are beautiful,” I whispered. Elara gave a small, approving nod. “ You’ll blend in better. And that fabric will keep you warm when the forest turns cold.” She motioned toward a folding screen in the corner. “ Go on, try them on.”

His face was so pure white like porcelain. He wore a white robe with blue accents that fluttered in the wind. His blonde hair hung straight down almost to the floor.
