Hugo smiled and gently helped remove the hair accessories from my updo.
“Saying ‘thank you’ isn’t enough,” he said again. He placed the accessories on the dressing table and rested his head on my shoulder once more.
I held his hands at my waist, soaking in the warmth of his solid presence.
“Then maybe I should give you something worthwhile,” Hugo murmured.
I turned slightly. “What do you mean?”
He smiled and stood, reaching into his shirt pocket and pulling out a small black leather box.
“It’s not an expensive gift,” he said, placing it before me. “Just something I chose myself, no stylist advice, no help from my mother, and I have no idea if you’ll even like it.”
