Patient. Waiting.

I went outside Just as I said I would last night You promised you would be there But you weren't there. I passed time staring at the skies It was beautiful Just like your eyes The wind blew across my face And I shivered at the contact A sudden cold spreading through me But I still stood waiting with a strong sense of determination I laid on the grass Hoping you would come soon To make me warm again But you never came. It is morning now And just like the night passed away My heart died as well.

Unknown I’ve been waiting in these woods for over three hours, hidden among the shadows, my patience wearing thin but my focus unshaken. The damp earth clung to my skin as I crouched low, eyes scanning the landscape, ears attuned to every sound. The forest hummed with life - the rustling of leaves, the steady trickle of water from a nearby fountain, the soft thrum of deer moving through the grass. But none of those sounds mattered. I was waiting for one thing.

“Bleiz, by the time you see this letter, I will have already left. As for where I went, I don’t know either, but you won’t find me. As for why I left, the reason is simple: I don’t want to wait anymore.” “I don’t understand. How much longer do I have to wait for you to take me away? Will you one day lie to me and say that I have to wait for your and Mona’s child to grow up, get married, and have children, or wait until you’ve grown old with her before you leave with me?” “Bleiz, my youth is also limited. The waiting was the hardest part. It was a strange, stretched-out time, like the moment between a lightning flash and the thunderclap. The air in the valley grew so thick with impending silence that even the buzzing of their bees seemed muffled, as if the insects were flying through honey.

Guarding. Waiting. In silence.

I sat there for a long, unbecoming time, beyond the point of crying and my breathing slowed. The colored light through the window changed as the sun moved across the sky, its patterns changing on the floor. Other people paused in, a Spanish-speaking old woman who prayed out loud, a young man sitting back in the farthest pew and staring at his hands, a nurse who came in during what was probably her recess. And so I waited, in prayer and mind, hope and despair. For nothing could be done then but wait. Wait and pray that somewhere out in the workings of things love would conquer greater than the forces arrayed against us.

Waiting for the work to finish. Ready for the life to start.
