Rejected by her mate and boyfriend on her prom night, Lyric Ashton vowed to never have a mate or be involved with the werewolf shenanigans. However, destiny had a different plan for her. Not only was she mated against her will; she was mated to no one else but her Professor. A forbidden romance, yet even the strictest rules are no match for what fate has in stall for Lyric's romantic journey… Wait. There's more, because this little, cursed, rejected werewolf holds something more than anyone can stand, not even her powerful ex-boyfriend stands a chance against her.
Lihat lebih banyakLoud cheers rang out from the hallway. Students, fleeing from the prom dance floor, ran towards the scene, grinning. Following the footsteps of the cheers, a strange heaviness knotted my gut. My heart was throbbing, daring to rip out of its cage. With slow and heavy steps, I approached the direction of the cheer.
What’s going on? I wondered, placing a hand on my chest. My classmates had formed a big circle around something going on then I heard my boyfriend’s voice say: “to the love of my life..”
“What the heck?” I pushed through the heaviness of prom dresses, earning groanings and frowns. Then I made my way out and stood at the center.
“Will you be my girlfriend and chosen mate?” Roger, my boyfriend, asked a petite blonde (Emily), one knee on the ground as he held a clearly fake diamond ring to her finger. “I promise I can’t live without you.’
“Yes, baby!” She grinned, sliding her finger into the ring.
My entire body began to tremble, a loud ringing sound filled my ears. Roger got up, grabbed her waist, and kissed her.
‘No, mo way.’ Maya, my wolf screamed, shaking vigorously within me.
I wanted to yell, fight, jump on them, yet my body betrayed me and did nothing but quiver. Roger’s back faced me as he tasted the flavors of her lips. Her hand rummaged through his already-disheveled brown curls like they were on a TV show. The crowd around us cheered them on.
I scurried and grabbed his shoulder, forcing his heavy figure to spin around. Once my eyes came in contact with those sparking ocean blue eyes, I burst into tears. “R-Roger. How dare you? We promised to get married. It’s our third anniversary, and our prom night!” I clutched his collar, pulling him to me. “we…We’re supposed to be self-chosen mates today! My family…our families… They already prepared for the ceremony. We are to perform our mate ceremony. Wh-what is this?” I stuttered.
His eyebrows creased up and he yanked my hands from his body. “Stop with this childish nonsense. We’ll talk when we get home.”
He attempted to turn around, but I held him. “Please.” My eyes welled up.
Flashes from our classmates’ phones had surrounded us, laughter thundering from them, yet the only thing that I looked onto was my Roger.
I cupped his face, forcing him to look at me. His eyes were usually filled with hope that pushed me through the past three years, the love and care that made me melt in his presence. However, this time, they read nothing but emptiness and something that seemed like… disgust. “It's a prank, right?” A nervous chuckle escaped my lips and I forced a smile.
“Right.” He nodded. No relief came from his words; judging from his tone, there was more. “Whatever we had was a prank. How could you be so foolish and naïve?” His friends laughed, cheering him to continue. “You were always this quiet kid that vowed to protect her virginity till marriage and made life hard for all the boys around. What did you think? That you’re Cinderella and your prince has come to save you.” He scoffed while our classmates burst out laughing, hollering chants at him..”Idiot.” That made something crumble inside of me. “The only thing you and your family can boast of, is your generational poverty and misery. Did you think I, the Gamma son, walking up to you and showing interest out of the blues was ordinary? You were nothing but a bet.”
My heart sank further, the hair on my skin rising from the chill. Suddenly, from the point of contact of his skin, I felt a strange spark, one I had never felt before. It was an electrocution that jolted over my body. With it, my wolf screamed, ‘MATE!’ Wow, destiny. You just had to do that right now?
His eyes widened and he pushed me away, making me land butt flat against the hard, wooden floor that had never been cleaned for decades.
“No freaking way we’re mates!” he groaned, turning to hit the locker on the side. His announcement triggered gasps and indistinct chattering from the crowd surrounding us.
He glared down at me, his face a shade of hot red. “I, Roger Brown…” my body began trembling tremendously. I shook my head, trying to snap him out of this.
“Don’t you dare play with me like that.” I warned.
He ignored me and started again, “I, Roger Brown, reject you, Lyric Ashton, as my mate. I disagree with such a stupid bond, and I hope we never have any dealings together again.” He spat.
My heart was struck with a sharp , unseen object. I held my chest tightly, my eyes widened in shock.
“Yeah, man. That was good.” One of his friends laughed, giving him a high five, and he had the audacity to laugh back!
“I mean, she was never worth it in the first place.” Another said.
Emily snaked an arm around his shoulder, and he leaned down to kiss her forehead, a proud smile on his face.
My entire body was hurting, confirming that it was reality. I wanted to force myself to zone out and snap out of this world, but I couldn't. The pain from the rejection burned me from the depth of my soul.
Scanning the room with tear-filled eyes, I observed the flashes from phones, and the mocking laughter directed at me.
One last glance at Roger kissing Emily was all I needed to jerk to my feet and run, ignoring the heaviness of my floor-sweeping, silver prom dress. As soon as I bursted out of the doors of the school, I kicked my heels off my feet.
“Hey, watch it!” a couple hollered at me.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. My attention was divided. Not only was my chest heavy, every fiber of my being burned from the rejection, my vision was blinded by my tears, images of Roger’s action kept sprawling in.
My wolf forcefully took control of my body, ripping my prom dress. With that, I was able to run faster in my paws, yet even in my wolf form, an unseen fire was laced around me.
The moment I got home, I kicked the door open, ignoring the horrible stench of alcohol and fell in my Mom’s lap.
“What's wrong, baby?” she asked, her voice raspy and reeking of alcohol and horrid substances.
I switched back to my human form and just cried in her laps. “”I’ll never have a mate again! Never! All these stupid werewolf things, never again!” I wailed.
“What's wrong?” she coughed, lifting my head up to catch her worry-filled gaze.
“I should’ve listened to you last year and given up on my werewolf life to just move away and live a normal life, but I stayed back for stupid Roger.” With trembling hands, I held her hands tightly. “Let’s move far away and never come back. No mates, no stupid pack, and no werewolves. I just want to be normal.” I sobbed.
It was the day I had been waiting for, the day I had worked so hard to reach. My graduation day. I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection as I adjusted my cap and gown. A sense of accomplishment washed over me, but it was mixed with bittersweetness. The road to this moment had been nothing like I imagined. The journey had been full of unexpected turns—love, loss, battles, and triumphs. In the early days after Brian’s coma, when I learned I was pregnant, I never thought I’d make it to this moment, let alone have my son with me by my side. The idea of balancing motherhood with my education had seemed impossible. But here I was, with my son, my husband, and my pack—ready to take the next step in life, even though I knew it wouldn’t be easy.I smiled softly at my reflection, adjusting my gown one last time. My son, only two years old now, was already napping peacefully in his crib, a reminder of how much had changed in such a short time. Brian had been there for me every s
The first day back in classes felt so unreal. The energy of the students buzzed through the air—laughter, conversations, the occasional groan about assignments—but none of it truly reached me. Not with everything that had happened. Not with everything that still weighed on my mind.Brian walked beside me, his presence a steady force, but even he felt different. Stronger. More protective. As if he could sense what was coming. And he wasn’t wrong.'Goodbye, my love.' He said through mind link, causing my cheeks to flush red. 'Goodbye, my love.' I mind linked back and giggled loud, earning side eyes from two of the girls about to enter my classroom as well. The moment I stepped into my first lecture hall, Professor Jenna’s cold gaze landed on me.Jenna… jeez. How could I forget this witch?A woman who should’ve been nothing more than an ordinary professor, but she wasn’t. She had a fixation on Brian, one she had never hidden well. Before the war, before everything, I had ignored it. Br
~ LYRIC ~ The ray from the sun shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the pack house, casting golden light over the polished wood floors. I stretched my arms above my head, breathing in the sweet fresh morning air as I gazed out over the training grounds. Warriors were practicing, their movements sharp and precise, but today wasn’t about war or battles.Today was about something far more terrifying:School. Yup, you heard that right. I gotta go back to school. I had almost forgotten that the rest of the world hadn’t stopped when Brian was in a coma, when I was learning to rule, when I had been fighting to hold our pack together. But time had moved forward, and now it was time for me to return to the life I had before I became Luna. Not that I minded.I loved being Luna.I loved the power, the responsibility, the feeling of belonging to something greater than myself. The pack respected me. They trusted me. I had spent the past few weeks proving that I wasn’t just Brian’s wife—
~ LYRIC ~Two weeks had passed. It had been. Two whole weeks. Two gruesome weeks. Two weeks of Brian laying in the hospital with no medical diagnosis. No treatment possible because no identifiable problem. It had been Two weeks of ruling without him. Yes, on the bright side, the pack had completely defeated the enemy and wiped out all of them, thanks to my power (not to brag or anything), so I had been leading the pack as Luna completely, with help from Jordan. Poor Jordan was mourning the murder of his beloved. It broke my heart for him, but Anna got what she deserved. It had been two weeks of waking up alone, staring at the empty space beside me where Brian should have been. Two weeks of trying to be strong while my heart ached in ways I never thought possible.Brian was still in a coma. My mother, too.The healers said their conditions were stable—alive, breathing—but that wasn’t enough. Not for me.Every day, I carried the weight of my pack on my shoulders. I made decisions, I
~ LYRIC ~I couldn’t speak— speaking was too much. I couldn't breathe. Brian’s body lay limp in my arms, his warmth slipping away with every second that passed. My hands were soaked in his blood, trembling as I pressed them against the wound that should have never been there. This wasn’t how it was supposed to end. Not at all. What was all that stupid prophecy of saving him about? I had tried all I could, summoned all the power I could find, yet I couldn't heal him quickly. A violent storm of emotions built inside me—rage, grief, desperation—twisting and churning until my body couldn’t contain it anymore. I wanted to explode. Watching the love of my life grow cold and pale in front of me was a sight that stabbed my soul. "I would not let this happen!" I growled and rose up, his pool of blood dripping from me. "No! I screamed."I would not let this happen. A throat wrecking scream tore from my throat, shaking the very ground beneath me. My power exploded outward in a bright
~ LYRIC ~I woke to the sound of gunfire. The sharp, jarring cracks destroyed the peaceful silence of the night, sending a jolt of terror through me. I sat up so fast that the blankets wrapped around my legs scratched my skin, my heart thundering in my chest.Beside me, Brian was already moving. Clearly, someone had experience in years of war and survival that had trained him well because he didn’t hesitate, he didn’t freeze, he didn’t seem fazed. He grabbed his armor and weapons from the bedside, his body tense with readiness.“What’s happening?” I breathed, throwing off the cover and getting off the bed to match his speed. His eyes were already scanning the darkened room, his jaw clenched. “We’re under attack.”Another round of gunfire exploded outside, followed by the distant shouts of warriors and the sickening sounds of metal meeting flesh. My stomach twisted. I was growing tired of this whole war nonsense and just couldn't wait for it to end . We barely had time to pull on o
