I say a nemesing smile creeping to my lip. ######################

i said. “Shh don’t fight it besides my friends say I give good hugs.” He said with a small smile, I could imagine the dimples beginning to form on his cheeks. I have seen them, they appear whenever he smiles, they are beautiful, he is beautiful. Handsome should probably be the right word but handsome is a word that does not do as much justice as beautiful. Handsome is plain, stiff, boring. Beautiful is complex, warm. Beautiful is a beautiful word. I leaned into his hug. It was warm, like that of a friend, like the type of comfort that only someone who never wants to see you hurt can provide.

“Why are you smiling at a critical time like this? We should be thinking of ways to go about this and not smiling.” He stretched out his hand and played with the zipper of my dress. “I smile because you make me smile,” my breath hitched as he said that and played with my zipper, thinking he was about to seduce or undress me. “I smile because I know you’re by my side, and that’s more than enough reinforcement and reassurance.” His words were soothing, like music to my ears, but now wasn’t the time for that. We could do that later when all the problems facing us have been solved.

I said the words on his behalf, both of us scared of losing control, him more than me. He nodded, "I should." "One more thing," I said, building distance between us again as I stepped backward, "Every once in a while, just smile," My own smile curved up my mouth and I added, "You have a really beautiful smile." He knew I wanted it and he gave it to me, a small smile lightened up his lips like the sun. A smile that made me want to smile, to breathe...to kiss it. I nodded, satisfied, "See," I mumbled, "I love it."

It was the way he smiled. It was the fact that he smiled at all. XXX

I gave him the answer I always did. “I don’t smile.” Simple and short. “But you do.” I looked at him. “Excuse me?” “You do smile. When you’re stepping on the skulls of your enemies. It’s a scary sort of smile.” I shrugged. “Guess that’s the only thing that brings me joy.”

Alex reassures me with a gentle smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners in amusement. As I watch Alex, I can't help but notice how incredibly handsome he looks when he smiles. It's a rare sight, but when it graces his lips, it transforms his face, lighting up his features in a way that is both captivating and endearing. In that moment, I find myself wishing he would do it more often, allowing me to bask in the radiance of his smile. With a sheepish grin, I thank him once more, feeling a surge of appreciation for his unexpected kindness.
