Making Past Perfect
Johnson couldn’t hide the excitement in his voice.
Alice smiled and nodded. Overjoyed, Johnson leaped up and began dancing around, but Alice pulled him back down.
“Be quiet! The others might hear and think you’ve lost your mind,” she whispered.
Johnson couldn’t contain his happiness. He sat back down, gently cupping Alice’s cheek before kissing her. When they broke apart, he whispered, “I’m the luckiest man alive.”
“Shhh! Calm down!” Alice scolded, laughing softly.
“My parents are going to be so happy,” Johnson said, grinning. But his smile faded as he remembered they were in a different time and place.
