Bound in Ash and Moonlight
Below, she could make out the silhouettes of mountains against the horizon.
She pressed her forehead against the cool glass and closed her eyes. Once more, she had lost everything and would have to start afresh. The pattern was becoming all too familiar; build a life, watch it crumble, begin again.
But this time felt different. This time, she was in the home of a being who claimed to be a mythological creature, who could appear and disappear at will, who burned people to ash with a mere glance.
"Phoenix," she whispered to the empty room, testing the word on her tongue.
