Most of the time I’d rather not know, myself. “You’re fucking weird, you know that?” Claire called after me. I ignored her and kept walking, not bothering to check if they were following me. No doubt they would need a second to confer and confirm that I was indeed weird, but that was okay. I felt like I had won an important victory. Like Ash giving Pikachu the thrashing he so richly deserved. I know that’s not how Pokemon is supposed to work, but that yellow bastard needs to be put in his place. Over a decade and he still hasn’t evolved, the lazy little shit.

Ash has never seen Lily kicking before, he's never experienced it firsthand before, except when I tell him, and on those occasions I do, he's usually mentally unreachable, so I go through Lily's kicking on my own. He carries me to the bedroom and gently lays me on the bed like Im made of glass and then pierces me with a long look. Lily has stopped kicking. I like to think she's also curious as to what her father is up to. Ash stares at me for a number of seconds, and as if telepathy has now become a thing between us, I understand clearly what his look means.

It was dizzying trying to make out a face she longed to see. She felt as if the world was about to close in on her. And then— "Mom!" As though a light, a small figure from a distance outshined everything else. Everything revolved around the figure as it slowly zoomed in Lily Alston's vision. And when it finally outlined the chubby face of a smiling boy, her pale expression brightened. Her frown slowly transformed into an unconscious smile, and with a sigh, she whispered, "Euros."

Right after posting it, while I was still reading comments mocking me for putting on a tough front, I saw Immortal Ashes Team’s official account tag me in a post, openly standing by my side. "The crowd follows the herd. The strong walk alone. Those who don’t know how to cherish what they have will lose it. Ash Mercer, we stand with you. IA will always be your strongest backing."

I managed to dodge one of his attacks, my anger fueling me to move faster. Asher seemed to be taking his frustration out on me today as his hits stung a little more than usual. We went on like this for half the class. Asher would lunge with speed and precision that stunned me, and I would scramble to dodge his vicious attacks. "If you learned just a shred of obedience, things may just be easier for you." Asher grunted, his forearm connecting with my chest and sending me plummeting to the ground. I ground my teeth against the pain and sat up.

she asked. "No, he just needs to warm up by the fire." Belishaw sighed. "Ms. Linwood, I need to speak with you." He waved her to come closer the fire place. He held out his hand, and a small burst of flames shot out at the fresh set of logs. They caught fire in an instant. "Holy shit!" Piper lunged backward. "You're a dragon too?" This couldn't be happening. She was definitely dreaming. "Yes," Belishaw said. "A dragon shifter, to be more precise."

she says as the images flick again and my breath stalls. Massive dragons. Beautiful. Breath-taking. Soul stopping. I stare at the image in awe. My parents told me stories about the dragons. In fact, my father’s bonded had been a dragon. An astrol dragon. Malakar. Absolutley giant and beautiful. I remember climbing on him as a small child as though he was a jungle gym. And the craziest thing? He would let me. Everyone knows you do not approach another’s bonded, but perhaps it was the fact that I was his bonded’s child. I suppose we will never know.

I stared at him in utter shock. “Stop saying that!” he yelled, shaking me. I'd never seen him this pissed off. “You’re hurting me!” I cried. “Then stop lying!” “I’m not lying!” I struggled, trying to free myself. My body was weak, my muscles lost their strength, but I fought. He shoved me extremely hard. So hard that I gasped before it happened. I stumbled backward and my foot caught on the edge of the rug, nothing much. The edge of the coffee table met the back of my heart.

"It's not like my dad is home. He said he has a meeting with some old-time friends and wouldn't be back till evening.” I exhaled deeply with a shrug and let him be. "But you still have to get back to Michigan for school tomorrow, right?” I quizzed as we neared the entrance. "Who's that?” My dad asked, appearing in our face. Asher grinned with a Japanese bow. “It's Asher. Nice to meet you." My dad furrowed his brow and stared long at him. I looked back at Asher. He seemed puzzled too. "Is there a problem, dad?” I asked.
