LISA’S POV As the horse’s hooves clattered to a halt in the stable, I felt my lips part, ready to speak. But before the words could escape, Asher’s strong hands released their hold on me. He swung off the horse with a grace that left me in awe, then turned to assist me down.

The rest of the group follows as we make our way closer to the fire. She reaches for an a piece of ember bark that sits in a bowl near the fire. Lyra takes a deep breath, and throws the ember bark into the fire. "I'm afraid I will never be enough." she says so softly I almost don't hear her. The ember bark burns so brightly I have to look away. My gaze collides with Callan who has a blonde sitting comfortably on his lap. Something ugly burns in my stomach. I force myself to look away, and direct my attention back to the fire. My thoughts begin to spin as I try to settle on what fear I'm going to give up.

I didn’t want my panic to be too obvious, but I wasn’t doing a good job. I handed the notes to Brian, who snatched them roughly, rolling his eyes. “It’s not like I’m eating your physics notes. Stay right here.” I went inside the kitchen to get a glass of water and turned around to see her drinking straight from the bottle. Fuck! I was such an idiot. I rushed to get the bottle out of her hand and placed it far away from her. “Damn it, Ash. I told you to stop drinking. It’s pretty strong. Don’t you ever listen to me” I chided her and she looked at me with those adorable puppy dog eyes.

"Baby, please tell me what happens if someone says anything to you." When Ash again shook his head, Alex took a deep breath. "Than bunny, what happens, huh? Tell me," Alex asks again. Ash closed his eyes and reached into his jacket pocket. He slowly took something out and placed it in Alex's hand. He then buried his face in the side of Alex's neck, waiting for Ash to find out what it was.
