“Once we go in, there’s no turning back.”

Inside, shadows swallowed them whole. Their lanterns lit the walls, revealing carvings and symbols worn by centuries. Crescent moons. Spirit wolves. A child standing at a frozen lake. The deeper they went, the colder it got.
The passage opened into a wide, round chamber. In the center was a pool—still, glowing faintly silver. Around it, murals showed scenes of battles, old peace councils, and a child with light pouring from her hands.
