My heart didn't quite seize with jealousy anymore, though. "No thank you." I waved them off. "I'm getting picked up soon." They nodded and left. The policeman coughed impatiently in front of me. He'd taken his hands from the notebook and instead crossed them over his chest. With pursed lips, he rolled his eyes "Reniella, I hope you understand how immature you are being. We're here to keep you safe."

“I’m Officer Stewart from the LAPD, Crime Branch. We need a statement, Mr. Laurier.” The police officer in charge of the investigation sat down to record Maddox’s statement. It had been an hour since he had returned home from the hospital, and now he had to cope with the cops.

I know it's not security because they're not wearing the uniform, but their presence is enough to shut Kristen up, so I'm happy for them to be on the field. "Good Evening, Mr Lions. I'm detective Leyton from the Claremont Police department, and this is Detective Crawford." The younger of the two men says when he reaches us. I apologized as I felt his knee bump mine. “It’s okay. My job is to protect and serve, right?” “Yeah, but you’re off the clock, so that doesn’t count.” “A police officer is never off the clock.”

My kids have been missing for hours and you all have the guts to open your fucked up mouth and talk about some fucking twenty-four hours rule?" "But that's part of the laws governing this station. A law that we all have to follow as police officers." A scoff left Dominic's lips and he shot the short man before him a deadly glare that got his knees quivering in fear.
