Theo’s POV I run my fingers along the leather spines of the ancient tomes, feeling the bumps and scratches carved by centuries of use. Most of these books haven’t been touched in years. Their bindings crackle softly under my touch, and the scent of old parchment clings to the air—earthy, musty, and somehow comforting.

Inside, there’s only one object. A book. It’s worn, bound in cracked dark leather, the surface mottled with age. The edges are frayed and soft, like it’s been turned over in many hands. One corner is blurred with old water stains, and faint patterns press into what’s left of the original design. The leather smells of earth and dust. It’s the kind of book that’s been hidden as much as it’s been held, kept out of sight for years, maybe longer. Evelyn hesitates.

The sun, dipping low in the sky, cast a soft glow across the garden, adding warmth to the already soothing atmosphere. Zoe sank down onto a smooth, flat rock near a small pond, watching as koi fish glided beneath lily pads, their orange and white scales gleaming in the late afternoon light. A book. I pulled it out and looked it over. It was a huge black covered book with intricate writing on it. I opened the first page and was immediately disappointed, it was written in a language I did not understand. I looked over at the other pages in the book and was mesmerised by the writing and even drawings that were on it. This meant something and I needed to look it over. I looked at forest as he sat on his haunches watching me the entire time. I stood up and looked down at myself. We both needed a very thorough bathing.
