He puts a hand to the bridge of his nose and presses. “You sure you’re all right? I’m supposed to report any accidents in the store and fill out a form,” says Cashier Girl. He waves her off. “I’m good. Just didn’t expect…” His words trail off and he glances around as if expecting the older woman to reappear. “She’s gone,” I say. “Thank fuck. I need out of this place.” He grabs hold of the bar on the cart and clings to it.

“Pinky swear with me.” A little shocked, she hesitated for a second, but she still reached out her farthest finger from her thumb and curl it up with his. His long pinky was the size of her ring finger, wrapped around her tiny pinky. That moment, he wishes he could drop everything and take her to run away. But… Could he really drop everything? Never to return to his birthplace? After a moment of silence, whilst their fingers were still joined. She let go, and said, “We… Should head back…? I’ll understand if you don’t want to come back, I can call a cab back to the Liu Manor.”

Claiborne was going to get serious. “Ah dear cousin, I expected you to be more welcoming,” A sing-song voice called from the door. Lily turned her head and stared at the stranger in the doorway. She sucked in a breath. In front of her stood the most handsome man she’d ever seen. His golden locks were similar to Claiborne’s pale locks but this stranger’s hair was more golden, like the hair on a lion. He walked with a confident swagger, a smirk on his face. His sharp jaw and lush lips caught Lily’s eyes. This man seemed to be the personification of the word mischief. Oh, the things she would do to him in the bedroom.

Chris said. “Yes, I will be very surprised if our Grace gets a few minutes to herself for a while!” Tony chuckled. Both Chris and Tony understood how protective a syndicate leader was over their family. “It is time for your daily visit Boss!” Hank reminded Tony. “Oh yes, how could I possibly forget?” Tony said as he got up and went to his bookcase. Once there he pulled out a book - Tale of Two Cities - from the shelf and pressed the button behind it. There was a click and the whole bookcase moved to one side revealing a passageway.

Fear instantly crept into my chest. I hurried to the door and tried to open it. Locked. I froze. "No..." I pounded on the door. "Open the door!" No one answered. My breathing gradually became uneven. No. No, no, no. This wasn't good. I stumbled backward. Then I heard a calm voice behind me. "You're finally awake." My entire body froze. Very slowly... I turned around. He was there. A tall man stood beside the window. His dark blond hair was neatly styled.

CHAPTER 9 ALEX I've always hated men like him. Didn't think it'd feel this visceral until now. I can still feel his warmth on my skin. Disgusting. “What was I thinking?!” My muscles twitch in catharsis. My eyes drift across the open space. I still don't know how I got here, but this definitely isn't the packhouse. It’s too still. Too quiet. It hums under my skin, like a warning to something I can't quite name.

We were crammed into a shitty apartment that stank of mold and sewage. Outside the window, we could hear the shouts of our enemies hunting for him. Inside, we had a single, paint-chipped pistol. He sat on the floor, covered in blood, in the dark and cramped room. He never knew that the innocent girl in the white dress before him had all but disowned her family and abandoned her name for him. "Rosalie, are you sure about this?" His eyes then were like those of a cornered, lone wolf, his voice trembling.

I scanned through them until I found scissors. “Why sit around waiting to be killed when I can do it myself?” I muttered to myself as I raised the scissors. Once I die, I'll make sure to haunt Tommy for the rest of his life. Finally, with force, I plunged the sharp edge of it into me, or so I thought. I opened my eyes only to see strong hands preventing me from moving further. His grey eyes had a hint of anger in them. A gasp escaped my lips when I realised what was happening. How did he get here? How did he know what I was doing? None of this makes sense.
