Forever. The Child’s hands fall away. The connection snaps. They stumble back, gasping, the terrifying cosmic light fading from their eyes, leaving them looking impossibly young, impossibly weary. Just a child again, trembling, covered in sweat and grime. Their power recedes, not gone, but… managed. Anchored. To me.

I gasped for air, feeling the pressure on my windpipe intensify, causing my vision to blur. The man whispered, his voice menacingly low, "You believe you have power." "You are merely a pawn." I tried to free myself by scratching his hand, but he held on tightly. The edges of my vision grew dim, and I felt a surge of power within me, eager to break free, yet I was unable to concentrate. I couldn't figure out how to make it function. Suddenly, a streak of silver cut through the air unexpectedly. The man's hold weakened, causing me to drop to the ground, struggling to breathe. I glanced up in time to witness Kael standing by the man, with his dagger deeply embedded in his side.

I was already soaked in sweat, shivering in fear but I swallowed hard and breathe heavily. I quickly wrapped all of my chains around him, the place as silent as a night as I tried to keep living. But he let out a grin and do something I didn't expect. He grabbed a hold of my chains as he looked at me with those intense eyes, his gaze sending terror all over my system. I poured every inch of my power, my chains glowing red, a desperate attempt. Blood started to trickle down his hands but it didn't even make him budge. The silver chain snapped toward me but I caught it this time, gripping it with bare hands, letting the pain sear into my skin without a single flinch. Evenly’s eyes widened. “That should’ve burned you!” “It did,” I said, voice low. “But pain no longer weakens me. It fuels me.” I yanked the chain and pulled her forward, slamming my palm against her chest. Power burst from me in a wave, throwing her backward. She crashed against a tree, bark splintering around her. Still, she rose. Bloody. Bruised. Smiling. “You may have power,” she rasped, “but you’re still just a girl.”

A moment later, I was too weak to hold my arm in place, but he grew stronger. Suddenly, the chains restraining his arms and wrists broke as he shifted, grabbing my hand and bringing it closer to his mouth. Perhaps I should have panicked when that happened, but I moaned instead. His sucking became harder, and his grip on my hand tightened. Shudders rushed through me, and I felt something within him awaken. This new power rose quickly, shattering the chains that tied his bare chest and then those on his feet. He leaned his head back, releasing his teeth from my arm. Then he looked at me, his eyes blazing bright red with an outer ring of silver. I had never seen them glow like that. I panted he

I’ve got to try. Stretching out my hands over his body I tell myself this is no different then taking off that shackle. I think I can do this. I begin releasing my power and drew a connection of each light to a finger. Closing my eyes I could feel each orb as my power touched it. When I feel every orb I lift them up. I can tell there is a connection, like an on and off switch just by the touch. Just like that I cut the connection off. Opening my eyes as I place my hands together as all the little silver orbs fall into my hands.

No shadow. Was I blind? Panic surged through me. No. No, this couldn’t be happening. This couldn’t be happening to me. I reached for my power, forcing it to answer me, forcing it to rise. “How dare you disobey my orders?” I screamed. Energy burst from me in a violent wave. I heard the sharp crack of chains snapping apart. Power surged through the room, wild and furious, lifting me into the air. And then, suddenly, I could see again.

And then, the color of her eyes changed into a glowing purple. And the man was too late to react. Within a blink of an eye, Purple Smoke had swiped two of her fingers in the air and the man was already chokef to death by the strong purple lightning in a form of chains coming out of her palm. The man's body shivered while his soul was being pulled out of him through the chains. In a few seconds, the man's body fell into the cold, black marble floor—pale as a ghost with eyes shot open in shock and pain.

Mentally I shift myself toward the darkness invading his body. As I mentally weave my powers through the mass, I can see it is almost gone. I can feel some of the effects of the mass temporarily myself until I finish my own cleanse. To know even a fraction of what this boy has suffered breaks my heart. Nobody will fully realize just how strong this young pup is. As I continue to flitter around working my magic, I knew there is a warmth that comes from the work. I can always feel the heat building in my hands as I continue to move forward ridding his body of the last of the disease.

I was left open for attack and the alpha with the ability to control silver chains charged at me with more chains than my human eyes could count. One minute my life was flashing before my eyes and the next, I felt my body hurled away again and everything happened in slow motion before my eyes. The chains tore through David, ripping the grizzly bear-like man to shred.
