Some time passed without anyone responding. Fay looked around with a confused expression. “Daddy, can’t I marry Cade Goldwin?” She threw the question now to Mr. Barney. The man cleared his throat briefly before answering. “Not that you can’t. But don’t you have to meet him first and see if Mr. Goldwin likes you or not? We can’t just ask him to marry you, can we?” Mr. Barney wanted to say that Cade Goldwin was an impossibility. He was reluctant to tell Fay that the Goldwins couldn’t compare to Barney’s family. The Goldwins were at the top of the pyramid and Barney was at the bottom.

He waited impatiently for the Skype call to connect. He had already spoken to Abby and Becky earlier, but he’d told Becky he would call back. He needed to talk to her and make sure she was okay. He was still seething over the whole Adam debacle and he had taken great relish in reading the preliminary reports his team had assembled for him. On the surface, the guy’s company looked solid, but Barry had a gut feeling that there was something lurking underneath that wouldn’t bode well for Mr. Calhoun. This was why Barry was known as a shark; he could scent blood in the water, and there was just something about Calhoun’s holdings that tweaked his senses.

Barry was sitting on the living room sofa in casual clothes, his tone neutral as he addressed Shawn, who reeked of alcohol. “Why are you home so late again?” Staggering from inebriation, Shawn chuckled, “Just finished the exams. Went out with classmates to unwind.” “Outrageous!” Barry said as he slammed the table in anger. “This is a critical period before the college entrance exam. A mere mock exam and you’re out every night? Is it because you’ve been hanging out with that Manning girl lately?” “Dad, we just hung out. We didn’t do anything. Besides, with my abilities, there’s no way I’d fail the exam.”

When he picked up, I asked, “Hey Nick, it’s Kyle. I need to ask you something about Barry. Is he… gay?” There was a pause, then Nick’s voice came through. “Barry? Nah, man. He’s always with chicks. Why? What’s up?” I sank into an armchair, phone pressed tight against my ear. “You’ve never heard anything weird about him?” “Weird? Well… everyone knows about his balls. They’re freakishly big. That’s his thing.” “You’ve actually seen them?” I asked, disbelieving. “Oh yeah. A couple times,” Nick admitted casually. “He shows them off all the time. Guys, girls—doesn’t matter. People react, he gets attention. Chicks love it, guys laugh about it. It works for him.”

He added. “Sure. On it.” The bartender answered with a smile. While Noah waited for Natasha to return, a very handsome and masculine man approached him. He dropped a $100 note on the counter and said, “His bills are on me. You can return his money.” This forced Noah to eventually notice this man. “Hey.” He spoke with rizz. “Hey.” Noah answered with a welcoming smile. “You were on fire over there. You killed every move. Can I sit??” This handsome stranger further asked, and Noah politely nodded.

The headquarters for PREPPY, my designer label, was in New York, not Boston. Boston was where I went to escape the drama that was my mothers family.
