The lighter clicked softly in the quiet room before the flame lit the tip. He inhaled deeply, his shoulders rising slightly before he puffed the smoke out into the air. “Oh, I see,” he said with a low chuckle. “You don’t remember?” Jerlad frowned. “You don’t remember how you stole her from me?” Baron continued, his eyes shifting toward me. “How you took the woman I fell in love with at first sight away from me.”

Once I turn the corner of the block, I slow my pace and make my way back to Civil Liberties, the best bar in town. The morning sun is beating down on me, but the Toronto weather is still chilly.
