Would he believe me if I told him the truth now? “He g-gave it to me that day I had to sign m-my statement.” I sucked in a breath, but it broke off in a gasp as pain shot through my chest. “Obsidian, I was n-never—” “What did he promise you?” I hesitated. “That he’d pay for a trip anywhere I wanted to go.” “Off the island?” I nodded. Obsidian let out a humourless laugh that quickly died down as his lips curled back into a sneer.

He smiled a knowing grin that made my blood run cold. "It matters not how you feel about the situation my dear. Per the agreement between your mother and King Elirond many moons ago you are in fact the property of the Kingdom of Astraea. You, Calliope Silverthorne, are the promised child to the crown." My breathe went still as I processed his words. "Clara made a trade, your life for her freedom and we have come to collect". What did he mean I was the promised child? Did he just say my mother sold me? Where the hell is Astraea? And why did he say my last name my silverthorne? None of this makes any sense. I was starting to lose focus, whether it be from the freezing cold box I was in or the

“Dante, I know we’ll do what Dario wants you to do. But if we go to my house, promise me that you won’t leave me there.” He slapped his fist against his chest. “You have my sworn promise.” Swallowing, I nodded. “I trust you.”

“I just wanted to know if you're okay, yesterday you were a bit... “Don't worry, I'm brand new. “I smiled and looked at his hands, trying to read the title of the book, but the veins outlined in his hands took my focus away, making me think about what those hands were capable of doing. “I brought you these books... “Jackson showed them to me, then handed them to me. ““Fate” and “dog on board” “I murmured, looking at the titles and names of the authors. “Destiny is by the author Rivers Mandson, it is a book that helped me a lot at times, it involves connection, the law of attraction” Jackson explained, making it clear that he understood that yesterday I went through a terrible situation and n

He looked up, a glimmer of hope reigniting in his eyes. "You can pay on a monthly basis. I'll give you a 30-day payment term." That glimmer died, replaced by an unreadable expression. "12,000 dollars? That's what you charge your family?" "Family, huh?" I reiterated, savoring the words. "Uncle Liam, do you know what that word means in my book? In my book, treating someone like family means paying them on time, not ripping them off, and not weaponizing blood ties to haggle on prices. I'm sure you know the state of your factory better than I do, Uncle Liam.

"Finished how?" Fina didn't answer that right away, because the honest answer, we don't fully know yet, only that it has to be soon, wasn't one she was ready to hand to a frightened twenty-two-year-old who'd already paid enough for other people's decisions. "Soon," she said instead. "I promise you it's soon." Gio nodded, not quite believing her, and Fina understood that disbelief better than she wanted to. She'd spent eleven years hearing exactly that kind of promise from people who meant well and delivered nothing, and she was determined, watching him, not to become one more of them.

, Damon said. "What promise?", I instantly asked to get rid of these roped hurting me. "The one that you gave me as your word at the park the other day... I promised you thirty percent of every profit we make together", Damon said. I closed my eyes and sighed louder than usual. This was much more amusing than I thought. Indeed, damon is just a kid. "That promise already broke when you decided that I am no more a use and you should kill me", I complained. "well, you are not dead",Damon said and smirked.

Nic chuckled. “So, what’s with him?” I wondered. “Is he also one of the many who’s come to complain about our dysfunctional family?” “No, it’s quite the opposite, actually.” “He gave us an offer!” Nic spoke in a suspiciously high-pitched tone. “He promised to help clear our name, and he plans on combining all of our forces!” For a second, the world stopped. “H-he did?” I gasped, wondering whatever we had done to receive this kindness. “Nic, that’s amazing!”

He didn’t look at anyone but me while he spoke. He guided me to the opposite side of the table and I didn’t resist. Was I in shock? Had he cast some vampire spell over me? He turned his attention to the men and women seated at the table. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is The Promised, the wielder we’ve been waiting for. She will be staying with us for the foreseeable future.” The words slowly drifted through my head. They were wrong. He was wrong. I bit my tongue until I tasted blood.
