“Yes,” he forced out. “But not for Caspian.”
My grip tightened.
“The arrow wasn’t meant for him,” he said quickly, voice rough but controlled. “It was meant for you.”
Rage spiked hotter. “Liar.”
“I knew you’d step in,” he continued, words tumbling now. “If I aimed at you directly, one of your mates would have taken it. Mate instinct. Protective reflex. You would never have been hit.”
