"I see," Queen Seria looked at the twins and took her seat beside the king. "It's an honor to meet you, your Highness." Bruno said as he leaped to his feet and paid respect. The Queen pasted a plastic smile on her face and looked away. Bruno picked the feather and dipped it into the inkholder. As he sketched the diagram, he explained all the necessary details.

The room was bathed in the soft, amber glow of a nightlight, smelling of lavender and the innocent scent of childhood that I had fought so hard to reclaim. "Valencia!" Mia scrambled up from her small desk, her eyes bright with a manic, creative energy. She looked like a tiny bird, fragile yet resilient. At the center was a large house under a bright yellow sun. Stick figures stood in front of it.

Then smiled wider. “Oh,” she said softly. “You will not be a princess.” Liniluna tilted her head. “No.” A small pause. “After you,” she continued, “I would rather be the next queen.” Kael’s attention sharpened, not in alarm, but approval. “A reasonable succession plan,” he said. As Aelira laughed quietly, the sound dissolving the last formality from the room. Plans were spoken of carefully after that. Not declarations. Intentions. “We will request an audience with your parents within the week,” Kael said. “Properly.”

The paper was different from the rest though and I thumbed through the rest of the book; I realized there were a few other drawings tucked between the pages like this, randomly scattered throughout the chapters. A woman was seated on a throne, splayed out with nothing but a thin veil covering her face and a star-studded crown on her head. Her hair was long and draped strategically over her chest, covering most of her breasts and ending in beautiful curls at her bare stomach. One hand was draped over the armrest, holding a glass of wine that was tipped and spilling all over the marble steps while her other was between her legs. The detail in the drawing was just incredible and I unconsciously
