The pale morning light spilled through the balcony doors, warming the marble floors of the villa.
My laptop glowed against the polished table, Quinn’s face framed on the screen. She looked neat as always, dark blazer crisp, hair tied back, voice calm even as she scrolled through figures on her end.
“…so the Milan deal is moving forward, though the Shanghai extension is still pending,” Quinn was saying.
I barely heard her. My chest was tight, my patience thinner than paper. “Pending?” I snapped, leaning forward. “Why is it pending when it should’ve been cleared yesterday?”
