Raven screamed in fear. Her face had completely lost all color. She covered her head with her hands. She was terrified. Harvey casually picked up another wine bottle. “Is that so? “Do you think I can’t go against you? “Come. Are you going to prove that to me? Raven’s tongue was completely tied as she tried to string any words from her mouth. Any semblance of pride in her was gone.

If he could stay close enough to her, eventually he would catch up, and if he was lucky, he could grab ahold of her long enough to say the incantation that would send her to Hell. Rider rematerialized atop a large building and saw Raven in the distance. She’d dropped her cloak, and as she began to run, he chased after her. She still had her scythe in her hand, though she’d collapsed it into the size of a magic wand, and now that she wore a black cat suit, instead of the bulky cloak, she was much more agile. She couldn’t outrun him, though. She had to know that. What was she trying to do?

Raven thought his death was near when he saw dozens of red eyes behind the trees in the Forbidden Forest. Raven had just learned that one of the Shadow Wolves fighting him was a scout. Raven was completely underestimated as an Omega; even the scout Shadow Wolves thought he was weak and could be easily killed.

Raven sat on a stool, hands folded in her lap, eyes flicking nervously toward the hallway every few seconds. “Relax, baby bat. You look like you’re about to confess to murder,” Cherry said, popping her gum and fluffing her curls. “I’m not good at this,” Raven muttered. “That’s why I’m here. Now, listen.” Cherry leaned closer, eyes sharp but playful. “Ozzy’s a cockroach in a gold chain, but he’s dumb enough to be useful. All you gotta do is make him think you think he’s interesting. That’s it.”

Raven shifted back and threw on a pair of leggings and a shirt given by one of her warriors. Her warriors dragged him into the war room, chaining him to the reinforced post in the center, his dark robes torn and soaked in blood. His eyes fluttered open, black and empty, a faint smile curling his cracked lips as he looked at Raven. “You can’t stop it,” he rasped. Ravens nails dug into the table, her golden eyes glowing. “Stop what?” “The Hunt,” he whispered. “You think you won. You’ve only delayed the inevitable.” Ragnar stepped forward, his eyes flashing silver. “What do they want?"

If anyone could keep my mate alive, it was her. As I pushed open the heavy wooden door, the scent of burning sage and crushed herbs washed over me. Candles flickered faintly on shelves lined with jars of dried plants and strange powders. The air was warm, humming softly with magic. Raven was already there, standing near the low wooden bed in the center of the room. Her silver hair was braided down her back, her dark robes brushing the floor. She had always been like this quiet but always ready, as though she knew things before they happened.

Raven DeLuca said and tilted his head. He's always impatient. For me, Raven is the most troublesome member of Nexus. He kills people for enjoyment. He enjoys killing people; he's often called "Nexus’ psychopath" by other underground organizations. For him, seeing the blood of the people he kills is entertaining. He also often disobeys his role in operations, which is why our new leader, Liham Candreva, keeps a close eye on him. He's not an official member but he became the leader because of his capabilities. He knows how to handle all of us.

Raven suddenly snapped her fingers, and Erika let out a yelp. “The kettle’s button turned on without me touching it!” she exclaimed. I glanced between her and Raven, and then I gulped heavily as I understood. The woman raised a thick, dark eyebrow. “Do you understand now?” she asked me, her head tilting yet again. I did, though I was in complete shock. Of course, this place wouldn't need a healer. They had sorcerers and sorceresses. And Raven was one of them.

But the others were supremely confident in her capabilities that he had no choice but to capitulate. “Very well,” he said. “This investment group is formed as of right now, pending official paperwork of course. What’s our first order of business?” “How ‘bout a name?” asked Eva. “The merc company Raijin and I formed is called Conspiracy of Ravens. Where we’re from, a raven’s a large black bird that’s ridiculously smart, opportunistic, and tricky. They do whatever it takes to survive, and it kinda represents our modus operandi to a T.”

“But Raven is actually the child the prophecy has been speaking of.” Ansel froze, eyes widening with shock. “What?” He shook his head as if he couldn’t understand, the words tumbling from his mouth. “I don’t—what do you mean?” “She’s the key,” I said, my voice dropping lower, a cold chill running through me as I finally let myself believe the truth. “Raven is the one who can end all of this. "The prophecy isn’t about anyone else, it’s about her.” The realization hit Ansel like a punch to the gut. His mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. He looked at me, then down at the ground, the weight of the truth sinking in.
