Far beyond the safety of the palace walls, a lone raven landed silently upon the stone ledge of the outermost eastern watchtower. One of the vanguard guards frowned, his hand dropping to his weapon. "Strange bird..." The raven didn't move an inch. It didn't make a sound. It simply sat there, staring directly at the guard. Its large, unblinking eyes were a deep, terrifying crimson. The guard slowly reached his gloved hand toward the creature to shoo it away. Instantly, the raven exploded into a thick, swirling cloud of black mist. The dark vapor twisted violently through the night air, rapidly gathering into sharp, floating words before the guard's eyes:

She leaned in close to my ear, her breath cold against my skin.

Although the Veil got a bit weak, it stood still. The voice sank into my skull like oil through cracks. The throne waits, little heir. Do not keep it hungry.
