Catherine was excited, her heart light at the thought of experiencing the outdoors with Lucius's family for the first time. When they arrived, the cool and fresh air surrounded them, and the scent of pine trees filled the air. Lanterns were hung high, their shimmering light casting soft reflections on the towering trees. The sounds of rustling leaves and distant birdsong created a vivid, peaceful atmosphere that Catherine had rarely experienced.

I nodded in agreement as I hurriedly stayed behind me. The movements of the leaves became louder as I could see visible wolf eyes glowing and lurking in the woods.

Servants whispered fearfully in corners as rumors spread faster than wildfire. The queen was missing. Nobody could believe it. Within minutes, dozens of guards stormed into the forest carrying lanterns as darkness slowly consumed the woods. “Elara!” “Your Majesty!” “The queen!” Voices echoed endlessly through the forest. But there was no response. Only silence. The deeper the night grew, the more fear settled into everyone’s hearts. Because everybody knew the dangers hidden inside those woods after dark. Even experienced hunters avoided certain parts of the forest at night. But tonight, nobody cared.

“True wolves bow to no one, Ralph. Not even you.” As he spoke, Raven scanned the trees around them. Her senses sharpened, and she realized they weren’t just facing the witches head-on. She spotted figures moving high in the trees, witches with crossbows aimed at them. Her pulse quickened. She quickly mind-linked with the wolves nearby. Everyone, crouch low. Shields up. They’re in the trees and about to fire. Her warning wasn’t enough to stop the tension that had already built between Damien and Ralph. Damien’s voice cut through the quiet forest, commanding and strong.

Indeed, there was a section mentioning the Thornwood, and a faded illustration of a group of wolves trekking through the wilderness together. “I’ve never heard of the Thornwood,” I said, glancing between the two brothers. “It’s a section of the neutral territory,” Andrei said. His expression was grim, nothing at all like the fearful yet hopeful look he’d given me just before our kiss. “Dense forest, almost impossible to navigate. Most people avoid it completely.” Damon nodded. “It’s crawling with rogues. Has been for decades. Anyone who ventures in there is susceptible to a rogue attack.”

When I lift my head, the raven hops to another branch farther ahead. You want me to follow. It tilts its head, as if answering. Through the pain, through the shaking in my legs, I push forward. One step. Then another. The raven moves each time I do—never too far and never out of sight—guiding me deeper into the woods, away from the fighting and the danger closing in behind me. The trees thin and the air changes. Then I see it. The dead black tree. The place where it all started.

Echo 's POV: The crowd followed the guards into the dark forest. It was a vast forest full of oak trees. The moonlight poured down like thin veil tonight, but the forest was still too dark just like its name -Dark Forest. Now the forest was quiet except for the crow. The torches lit up the acorns on the ground. Squirrels fled wildly. I trudged to Jenna's "secret base." Sure enough, Jenna was there! But she seemed wounded, sitting down in the doorway, pale, but not like her Vampire-white, even whiter.

The car stops in front of a house where a man and a woman—middle-aged—walk out to greet me. I step out. “Good afternoon.” I offer a small bow. “Roland, how are you?” the woman speaks first. “I’m Rachel, Diana’s mother.” She opens her arms for a hug. I do not care for hugs. Or people. I never have. “Sorry,” I say flatly. “I’m not a hugger.” Her arms fall back to her sides, smile stiff. The man steps in. “Dylan, Diana’s father.” He offers his hand. I accept it.
