“You’re going to be fine. The healers have all agreed that the cure is taking effect, and I will stay with you until you wake up. We’ve gotten this far, we’ll get through this, together.” I ran my hands over his body, stretched the blanket, and fluffed up the pillow under his head. All seemed to be stable, and I snatched the book from the top of the nightstand. It was the one he used to read out loud to me as a child. I thought that maybe, just maybe, reading it back to him would get through to him in a way that my own words hadn’t. I leafed through it, settling into the words. Time just seemed to slip by, easy and slow.

God, I was horny. My gaze continued to roam the cover as I thought about grabbing it. I did usually read during a soak. And the water had quickly turned cold before I could finish the chapter I was reading yesterday. But- “Reading sounds painful.” I grumbled to myself. After re-reading the same instructions for hours today, I would rather not continue to read. Whether it was for my enjoyment or personal gain, I felt as if I couldn’t read another word. I was too mentally exhausted to even try.

**Sam's POV** I read it again. And again. My eyes kept going back to the same words, like maybe I hadn't read them right the first time, like they might change if I just kept staring long enough. They didn't. They sat there on the page exactly the same way each time, black ink spelling out the end of a life I was still, technically, living.

Yet, even as I resigned myself to this path, a spark of defiance flickered within me, a silent vow to someday reclaim the autonomy that had been stripped away. Her words flooded into my mind, "I'm your secret lover, and it's so sad for me to accept that." It just kept replaying in my head like a broken record that won't stop. It's like her voice is stuck on repeat, echoing over and over again in my mind. And each time I hear it, it's like a punch to the gut, reminding me of the tangled mess we're in. But what can I do? It's not like I can just make it all disappear.

My breathing echoed loudly in the confined space, uneven and shaky. I inhaled and exhaled as my hand tightened around the piece of paper still clutched between my fingers. Slowly, my gaze dropped to it again. That note. Those words. I had already read it more times than I could count, yet I still found myself unfolding it once more, my hands trembling slightly as my eyes scanned the lines again. And again. And again. As if somehow, the words would change. As if maybe I had imagined it. But no matter how many times I read it, it remained the same. Unchanged. Real.

Then, the Editorial Department of StartReading Literary received documents of approval from Jardin Corporation. The entire department instantly erupted with excitement.

I was not going to take the risk to find out. Jackpot! I had read the book over and over again but everytime I tried reading it again, it still had the element like it kept generating new spells or maybe I just had poor memory. I read the pages, the handwritten warnings and say the exact words a few times aiming to memorize it,

I read it again. Ethan Crowe, currently engaged to Lilith Voss. The same words. The same meaning. It didn't change on the second read. My breath had done something without my permission. A small involuntary catch, the kind your body made when something landed before your mind had finished processing it. I set the file down. I picked it up again and read the line a third time, slowly, the way you read something you needed to be certain you hadn't misread. I hadn't misread it.
