It was scorching like a flame and if auras could be tasted, hers would definitely be bitter. I shuddered, walking over to the first aisle to check it out. The first book that caught my attention was Blood, Pawns and Obsession. It was a dark romance by Rylie Martin. I had one of my projects on hold because I wanted to read this book and get into the head of the psychotic male lead, so I would understand him better and be able to execute my plotline to my taste. The grin on my face unconsciously widened, and I brought the book to my nose, sniffing it in.

“But someone online recommended a dark romance book and I really want to check it out.” My eyes scanned the shelves, my gaze snagging on a particularly striking cover. It was dark, almost black, with the title splashed across it in stark blood-red letters. “Dark Temptation,” I read aloud, picking up the book. “Is this it?” Pauline leaned in, narrowing her gaze at the cover. “Huh. I’ve seen that one online. It’s pretty popular, actually.” She paused, then shook her head. “But no. I couldn’t read that.”

I glanced at her, surprised that she seemed to like reading romance books too. I thought an Iron Lady like her might only like reading horror, action or crime based books

He held up the book so I could see how much of it he had read. “You’re reading my vampire romance?” Obviously, I knew this already, but I still couldn’t believe he actually had it in his hands. I was more than a little embarrassed. “Well, yeah,” Brandon said, pulling it away from me. “Fangs of Love by Amber Rose. It’s really quite interesting. I’m doing research.” He said it in an overly romanticized voice and I could feel my face turning red. “Just give it here,” I whispered, reaching for it again. He held it just out of my reach.

I placed my face against hers then kissed her cheek, feeling the softness of her skin and inhaling her sweet scent. “I want to make tonight special for you,” I said in her ear and moved my arms downward then held her hips. “I want to worship you tonight. I want to make you feel needed. Tonight is our wedding night, and you deserve one from a fairytale book. I will make you mine tonight. Let us pretend to be lovers for tonight, baby… Let me make love to you.”

I needed to cut her off. "Look, they're doing the walking around the fire thing." She said. I hummed non committal. "I read about it in this book by Drethi Anis. Five thousand nights of obsession. The book was so good." "You read?" I asked. I had never seen any book in her apartment or caught her with a book. "Yes." She blushed, then quietly. "Romance books." "You don't strike me as the romance type." I looked at her intently. "Is it one of those raunchy books with shirtless men carrying scabbards on the cover."

Then, as I scrolled further, a suggestion caught my eye: "Read romance novels to understand what love looks like in action." It sounded ridiculous, but desperation overrode pride. I clicked onto a bookstore website and began scrolling through its romance section. The titles and covers differed-some sweet, others fiery-but they all promised the same thing: a vision of what love might look like. I put a stack of them into my cart, trying to block out that nagging little voice inside my head, which questioned what I was doing. Edward handled most of them while I restocked shelves and learned the layout. Around two, a woman came in looking for a specific dark romance. I led her to the romance section, pulled both books, gave her quick summaries.
